I know there are threads that ask for 5 things about yourself, but can you do 25? This took me some time, but I did it. Give it a try and we can all learn a little more about everyone!

Here's mine:

1. my name is barnes . i got this name from my real father at age 5 becuase my mother remarried and to save me trouble adjusting at school with a dif last name than her she changed it legally to my stepfathers last name and this infuriated my real father as he was so proud to have me . he went along with it as to not cause riff with my mother but began to call me barnes from that day on !
2. my real father raised me as a boy i wasnt to cry if it was cold or hard or sad . he made me tuff as steel and i liked it . we r very close. the butcher i get the better he and i get along.
3. i am 43 and my bday is 9/11.
4. i have 2 bio girls 1 13 and the other 17 both amazing and enbrase my butchness. we r a thicker than thieves. both r bisexual lol .

11. i am a recovering alcoholic in aa since i was 15 with many falls from the wagon the longest stretch of sobriety was 8 years not even cough medicine did i take then !
12. i spend way too much time online and not enough time with my children.
13. i have been married 6 times. 4 men and 2 women.

I don't know how NOT to talk about myself, so this thread is perfect for me.
 

1. I’m a fairly classic ENTP. While everyone thinks I’m such an extrovert, I disagree. Staying present is exhausting for me. I’m also a true Scorpio.
2. I always wanted to play the trumpet. In third grade someone let me borrow theirs and I tried for three weeks to make sound come out. No luck. That ended my love affair with the trumpet.
3. I played lacrosse on the boys team in high school.
4. I love books. I collect autographed copies. I was lucky to have a job at one point where I met important, published people.
5. I never curse or show disrespect to, or in front, of older people. Under any circumstances.
6. Surprise! I’m impulsive.
7. I love going to Yankee’s games. The last time I was set to go to Pride in NYC, I got tickets to the first Subway Series in the new Shea stadium, aka Citi Field. I never made it to Pride. The stadium was amazing, and of course, the Yankee’s won. (They throw games occasionally to keep people from complaining how they always win - they are humble that way.)
8. It took me three weeks to watch Schindler’s List. I could only watch small bits at a time. Then I’d lose it, regroup and force myself to watch a little more.
9. While I’m not afraid of heights, I am afraid of ladders. During firefighting training, we had to raise a 25 foot extension ladder in full gear and race to the top of the building. It was a timed test. I had the lowest time. I had no problem getting on the roof. Getting down was a different story. The instructor had to come up and talk me down. lol. I spent the rest of the day doing it over and over until I mastered it. I still hate ladders, but I can get off the roof. I did find that I was more motivated when the building was actually on fire.
10. I don’t really believe in superstitions, yet will still throw salt over my shoulder if it’s spilled, never walk under ladders, never lay hats on a bed or open umbrellas indoors. My grandmother put the fear of god into me when I was little.
11. I’m the only person in my family that has ever voted or went to college.
12. I’m am oldest child and very competitive.
13. I had serious hearing problems until the fourth grade. I learned to read everything to understand what was going on and it became my first great escape. I finished the entire Hardy Boys collection in second grade. My first “paper” in the sixth grade was a book report on the Odessa File by Frederick Forsyth.
14. Ham and cream cheese are delicious together. Cream cheese on hot dogs - delicious too.
15. I substitute ground turkey for anything that requires hamburger and quickly hide the package so no one knows. They never know. lol. Only turkey hot dogs too.
16. I may be one of only five people in the world that actually loves Grape Nuts cereal.
17. I hate the snow and dislike upstate NY. I have fallen in love with the idea of living in Ecuador.
18. Although I do love the ocean, I don’t swim anywhere where I can’t see the bottom.
19. I love poetry and the classics. I don’t have command over English in the way that great or even good writers do. So many rules. I’m only able to write from emotion. It made learning Spanish hard too. How can you learn the rules of another language without knowing what the rules are in your own? I have no idea what the past predicates or participles are, just that they exist.
20. I automatically assume that math, science, physics and statistics majors are smarter than me. I generally like them immediately and find them fascinating. My brain just doesn’t work that way.
21. I love to hear about what people do for a living. I could listen to those stories all day. Or how they came to this country, or stories about life up until 1960.
22. My favorite songs of all time are Radar Love by Golden Earring, Rhumboogie by the Andrew Sisters and Opus One by Tommy Dorsey. Random, I know. Music was my second great escape.
23. The minute I learned how to “Act as if” my life changed forever.
24. I once wrote a letter to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the king of Dubai and told him that I would love to visit his country, but he would need to change his policy against Israel. I haven’t heard back, so I assume he’s still thinking it over.
25. I’ve always been a news fanatic, even more so since 9/11. CNN is always on somewhere in my house and I usually run a live feed at work.

1) I lived in 21 places by the time I was 18.
2) I have 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
3) I miss my east coast friends.
4) I was a working actor for 14 years.
5) My last break-up brought me to my knees in pain and over a year later I am still affected by it.
6) I am so grateful that my last break-up brought me to my knees in pain as it taught me compassion.

8) If I could go back in time - I would have 3 more kids (I have 2 right now).
9) I had ovarian cancer (hence no more ability to produce kids) and it was discovered while it was in stage 1A - so I was cured at the same time it was discovered.
10) I am afraid of heights.
11) I no longer believe love is enough (but I still believe in it).
12) I love hot chocolate (and know that hot chocolate can often be enough).
13) I am afraid to fly - but love to visit warm tropical places!
14) I walked 60 miles in 3 days and would do it again for a good cause.

18) I got sober before I could drink legally.

1. I love music, music theory, exploring the patterns and possibilities... I've always been fascinated by it.

2. I play guitar and was in a band or two for some few years, main was The Slut's of Anarchy, it was pretty popular (tri-state) but broke up due to- take a guess... mindless partying.

3. I sing as well but not 'as well' ;).

4. I 'thanked' everyone here before even reading the posts, I will go back and read them and remove my thanks if there was something really offensive to me, but I like the thread and willingness to share. I thank haphazardly sometimes yes... lol

5. The question I have been asked more than any other and all through life is: "Are you a vampire?" This I surmise is because- my pallor, very red lips, long pointy canine teeth and am often cool to the touch all over due to secondary vascular effects of a rare blood disorder... etc. etc. So, I pretty much have legit explanations for most of these "vampiric signs", and seriously, some people still don't believe me.

6. I have 20+ hoodies, the 'comfort food' of clothes for me... they range from street to sweater/semi-dress even... I have no sports related hoodies.

7. I almost always am wearing a hat, it's keeps me warm (see #5) and I just like them. 99% of the time it's an Ivy/Flat cap and the other 1% one of my Fedoras on dressier occasions... I never wear baseball caps, and don't like them.

8. Despite the way number 6 makes it sound, I like to dress well, I don't ever lounge around in "sweats" or ratty t-shirts nor do I own any.

9. I wear low rise jeans almost exclusively, button and flap back pockets highly preferred.

10. I love animals and consider them to be the best type of friends, when I hear of someone abusing them it raises my blood pressure like nothing else does... and I would bitch-slap anyone I saw kick or punch an animal.

11. An affinity for Victorian decor and anything Victorian.

12. I have bad allergies, make me cough, sneeze and snot myself pretty much year around.

13. I'm unusually strong and it irritates my friends that pump iron that I can out arm wrestle all of them without having lifted a weight in years.

14. I drive a red Dodge 'Sport' Ram truck (I love my truck).

16. I love to take long walks at night, later the better.

19. I used to sleep walk quite often as a small child, my mom used to have to put chairs against the doors at night because I would always leave the house... I sleep walk fairly rarely now.

I in my life attempted more than once at a gf's request to become a vegetarian for awhile, and that's a lie, I never r-e-a-l-l-y tried but pretended and got the girl anyway... ;) I did yes come clean because, my what a tangled web we weave... and I friggen hate that... andI hate liars... gah, lol.

23. After my mom died I found out I was adopted through found letters and paperwork. Anyway my whole life I thought I was Italian and then found out my parents were from Portugal, so I'm Portuguese, nope... fairly recently I found out yes my parents lived there but weren't born there, and I am actually Romanian. I am not researching anymore... :/

1. I never learned to drive. I tried as a teenager, but was too nervous, so I just moved to cities with good public transit systems.
2. I was born and raised in Ohio, but currently live in Vancouver. My dad told me “You’re starting to enunciate your words like a damn canuck.”
3. I have to use proper English/Canadian spelling at work- adding the u to words like favorite and humor, cheque instead of check, but I’m very conscious of not doing that when writing to my family because I don’t want to seem showy or pretentious.
4. I have a complicated relationship with religion. I have trouble embracing Christianity as an adult, but feel guilty if I’m not at church on Easter and Christmas Eve. My grandpa was a minister, so that probably doesn’t help.
5. I’m wearing a Snuggie as I write this.
6. Everytime I watch a movie with Zooey Deschanel, I go into the bathroom and cut my bangs. She has my dream hair.
7. If there is a doggie tied up outside a store, I will stop and pet it.
8. I frequently have this dream that I’m surrounded by hundreds of toilet, and every single one of them is filthy, or there won’t be any stalls on the doors, or there will be two toilets to a stall. It’s horrible.

10. Sometimes when I can’t sleep, I picture the cat I had as a little girl, Lucky, sleeping on my tummy like she used to do, and that helps me get to sleep.

12. I used to take dance classes as a kid- ballet, tap, and jazz- until I hit 13 and it became clear that I wasn’t going to grow up with a dancers body, so I stopped. I wish I hadn’t.

25 Things
 

1. I am 6' and weigh 180 lbs...sometimes getting up to 190

2. I practice doing things with only one hand in case I lose the other

3. I was a basketball star once upon a time and received a letter from the Olympic Committee asking me to try-out. We boycotted the Olympics that year so I did not try-out.

4. I once supported myself, for several years, by playing guitar and singing in random clubs across the country.

5. I was once a big-time drinker but just up and stopped about 20 years ago

6. I do not drink, smoke, or swear

7. I have been single, and without a date, for over twelve years.

8. I make up little songs about everything I am doing and sing them aloud to whomever is near. I call it being a 'singer of life'.

9. I love to cook and cook for myself every night.

10. I died in an automobile accident on 1/1/08. I did not see a bright light...nor was there anyone poking me in the butt with a pitchfork.

11. During my rehabilitation from the aforementioned accident, they discovered I had ovarian cancer that had spread to my spine. I have since recovered fully from both the accident and the cancer.

12. I have always wanted to be a radio talk show host

13. I have a 250cc scooter I ride everywhere, weather permitting.

14. I allowed my cat to name my fish, Mmmmmarawwww, and even though I do not know how to spell it, that is what I call him every time I talk to him.

15. I am very quiet, and have been known to go for days without talking

16. At the prison where I work, I am the fastest promotion, first to Sergeant, then to Lieutenant, ever.

17. I had over 20 different jobs when I was younger as I would get bored and just walk off.

18. I once stopped dating a woman because she always mispronounced Pine-Sol and daughter. She called them Pine-Soil and dorter and it made me crazy.

19. As a kid, I held turtle races in my parent's storage space for the other kids. I made lots of money and donated every cent to the local animal shelter.

20. I lost my partner of twelve years to cancer a little over twelve years ago.

21. I am terribly introverted and do not get lonely for people but do get lonely for something to love and care for.

22. My Dad and I raise bees together. My Dad is my favorite person in the world.

24. I was arrested several times (stupid stuff, nothing criminal) when younger and once spent a weekend in a Tennessee jail. I used the time to mingle.

25. We have 700 inmates at our facility. I know each and every one of them by, not only their names and crimes, but also remember each of their bed areas.

16. I've entertained the thought of getting my Canadian citizenship and can do so, because my grandfather was Canadian.
17. I have absolutely no attraction to blue eyes, but I have them.
18. I am a ghost hunter and paranormal researcher, but remain a healthy skeptic.
19. I've had a computer since the age of 13 and generally have several at the same time.
20. I haven't ever read an instruction booklet and have always just figured out how to put something together or use it by futzing with it.
21. As a child, I was always hanging out with boys and we'd regularly get into fights (on purpose).
22. I know NYC and FL like the back of my hand, but have no interest in seeing NYC ever again.
23. I've been single for about 5 years now and I still don't have enough hours in the day to do everything I want and enjoy.

24. As we grow older I believe we become cynical and lose the 'magic' in life, we stop 'believing in' this and that... think we know it all now... I did that... and then I realized I know nothing... and reclaimed the magic, it's been a huge positive change.

1. This is going to be really tough for me. That's why I'm doing it.

2. I have been fluent in 4 major musical disciplines in my life - double bass, French horn, piano and voice. I only do these things now for my own amusement, as professional playing seemed a likely path. I did it to avoid hating what I do.

I finished via web courses and wrote my final exam 16 hours after arriving back in Canada, then received my degree - 8 years in the making - 6 months later. I can't remember where I put it.

8. I come off as dramatic, demanding, teasing and perhaps pontificating in chat, but if you met me in real life you'd see how simple I really am.

He is a fine-looking, upstanding young man in library and office aide training and I love him dearly. My stepbrother Colin is 18 and is working as a trained meatcutter at his local grocery store. He's also a b-boy and dances at a Christian youth church that holds regular raves and club nights. I am as proud of them as I can be, but I have also lain down some assbeat on both of them and received my dues in return.
