So for some damn reason I woke up this morning thinking about things we use everday that you never see commerials about. It made me wonder what other things large compaines make so much money off of they dont have to advertise. Post your thoughts here:

Mine was duct tape, almost every house has one or two rolls of duct tape, its used for so many things including in murder case, to fixing broken toys

I myself dislike duct tape and tend to use gaff tape or fix whastever it is not just temporary it with tape.

But think about how many rolls you have at your home, workplace, car, boat, rv, and all that And you can buy it anywhere from a home imporovement center to walgreens to the quick corner store and in many colors.

let me hear your thoughts on other things you dont see ads on

Daktari 12-30-2011 12:19 PM

Gaffer tape all the way here too Mike.

Don't think I've ever seen an advert for post-it notes yet everyone has at least one pad of them. Some of us have multiples ones in all different sizes and colours. :|

MissItalianDiva 12-30-2011 12:22 PM

LOL feeling convicted here since I don't have a single roll of duct tape. Nice thread idea...hmmm as for what I have in my home that doesn't get advertised I can't think of too much other than vegetables and perhaps my wine cooler.

cant say i have seen an ad for shower curtians either

Mike 12-30-2011 12:48 PM

who are ads directed at? housewives, the head of the house, the kid to make the parnet/s buy things etc? or just it depnd on what it is? i know some ppl who have to buy every new thing they see esp in cleaning products, imo
if you keep it clean you dont have to pay so much for cleaning product, only elbow grease is going to clean really dirty items

MissItalianDiva 12-30-2011 12:48 PM

What the heck is a corn cob holder...

Great thread idea, Mike!!

I've never seen an ad for my Filtrete furnace filters. :|

They're made by 3M, which does advertise, as a company that "makes the things we use better", but not specifically these particular furnace filters.

http://i709.photobucket.com/albums/w...reteFilter.jpg

These are really great, btw. I have asthma and the dust here in the desert, especially in my area, with all the construction going on, has really been bad. I've found these filters to do a remarkably good job with keeping my asthma in check, here in my house. :)

ok i know some of you wont be suprised i went here with this!

sex toys, how many cocks or vibs have you see on tv, altho in our community and many others you find them everywhere, and most of it is trail and error or word of mouth about selections, whats the best what size, etc
we do see lube atleast KY brand

we do see ads for pumps for men who have edf, just recently

Could be;I use Tivo. I rarely watch commercials.

SoNotHer 12-30-2011 02:02 PM

Many good things can be said about duct tape, and you're right it doesn't get advertised. And I'm guessing it doesn't need to.

Antenna and most smaller parts I pick up at Radio Shack don't
Car parts - rims, transmissions, hoods and rotaries usually don't
Guns and cigarettes can't (and don't need to
Books rarely get advertised on TV, and when they do, I don't like/trust it.

Paper clips
staples
hole punches

Unless one thinks the Staples icon is a commercial all in itself.

Inked_Trinity 12-30-2011 02:23 PM

Toilet seats..... we all have at least one!

scootebaby 12-30-2011 02:25 PM

fridge magnets

coasters

Truly Scrumptious 12-30-2011 02:26 PM

WD-40 . . . I never see ads for it.

But everyone has it, right? Because after all, WD-40 and duct tape are the only tools you need. (If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40. If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.)

Cin 12-30-2011 02:28 PM

I've never seen any ads for C clamps. Very useful to have around.

I can think of something that never did get advertised but now seems to be all the rage. Prescription drugs. Especially for depression. But for other stuff as well. During the commercial they recite the long, long list of side effects. I find it all rather disturbing.

i had seen this one

Truly Scrumptious 12-30-2011 03:08 PM

Look what I just found . . .
(Though I always wonder if Duck brand duct tape only exists because so many people insist on calling duct tape duck tape. Makes me crazy.)

Cin 12-30-2011 03:20 PM

I enjoyed both commercials. The w-d 40 one is pretty cute. But the last 5 seconds of the duct tape commercial makes my eyes water.

midwest chick 12-30-2011 04:16 PM

trash cans
tissue box holders

Commercials shouldn't be what makes you decide to use a product anyway, should it? lol That is what Consumer Reports is for! :detective:
