R.I.P. Ding Dongs
Hostess n Wonder Bread :| Orange Cupcakes Twinkies Ho-Ho's :vigil: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_W-pG7tUmJk...g_dongs_04.jpg That's 18,000 jobs lost and another American Icon bites the chocolate dust. I'm totally traumatized. :overreaction: :| And I'm headed to the outlet in an hour. :praying: :daywalker: |
I am sorry Day.
That sucks |
i really do hate that. sad. i've never been a big liker of twinkies and hostess brands. but this shouldn't happen.
if little debbie can't manage her money, then i'll be really really sad. love me some little debbie. |
The Twinkie/wonderbread factory is 5 mins from my house.
They are going to liquidate the brands, I'm sure someone is going to by twinkies and the other product lines. I'll miss driving by on a Sunday morning and smelling the baking of the breads. |
Never cared much for the twinkie stuff. But do like the Home Pride bread. Seeing they are selling the brands off, some of the product line should come back. I'm wondering if the unions (300 different labor contracts?) were hoping the companies deadline of returning to work last night was a bluff. Big risk to take. So 18,500 more jobs lost. And, an untold number of retirees who will be losing, at minimum, their monthly retirement income, and perhaps health benefits. Is a major bummer all around. |
.....
So sorry to hear jobs are lost...
you can only hope there is a buy out and folks are put back to work. NO MORE HOSTESS O,S :
Mother of gawd, what is this world coming to?
I kinda feel like a part of my childhood is dying. |
this is a big loss..... not just the the snacks but more people , in the food stamp lines.... texas insterments ..... is laying off 1700 workers in dallas a lone.... and there r more to come.... whens this going to end?? |
It was my childhood. My dad had a bread route for the west coast brand. He then had an outlet store with routes running from there. I dressed as Snoopy one weekend to help promote Ding Dongs. He paid me good! At home, our freezer was full of bread and treats. I was the go to friend, lol. Wow, this is sad.
Looking around for some other cream filled treats.... |
im at a wal mart now...... i know this is against my diet but .....
i feel like running in there and stocking up on hoho's , twnikies and and ahhhh zingers... heh |
I don't like the products (yes, sacrilegious, I know) but I mourn the USA of my childhood.
My grandchildren will never know it as it was. |
I just heard the news... this is so upsetting. I don't like that people are losing their jobs but I am majorly depressed about losing my suzi Q's , orange cupcakes, ding dongs, and twinkies. What am I going to do?
Seriously.. this is depressing... childhood memories. |
[QUOTE=SleepyButch;701519] suzi Q's ,
Suzi Q's too?!?:( Well, today is my shopping day and I am going to do a morningstar special and shoot-up right in the parking lot! |
|

Day, are you saying my powdered sugar doughnettes will be no more.....uuugghhhhhhh!!!
|

THis is not good!!!! All the jobs lost, our fave goodies gone,it's like to much to see gone. The only way this could/may /possible not happen is for Little Debbie to get it right with finances so they can contenue.Plus, people NEED tp BELEAVE in the good old U.S.A. and spend there money on OUR products so this hopefuly dosent happen......again.
|
Trying to blame the unions and workers after workers have already given multiple concessions. No thanks Hostess.

I agree. The Ladies of the Outlet and their Drivers said they are pissed at a particular group of staff folks that apparently 'would not back off for 3 months' and that the result is all 18,000 employees went down. This was their own personal words. (w) But. We all know how most Corporations are. :sunglass: And I just would like to see someone come in a keep the Brand alive and re-open and run the operation proper like. :accountant: :daywalker: |
I have not read anything on this but, this has to be a profitable operation no?
Flour, sugar...we are not talking about expensive ingredients here. What broke down? I bet another company picks this one up. Give it a week or two. When there is a public outcry over a national favorite brand, smart business people listen. |

Profitable no. Hostess filed for bankruptcy in January, its second trip to bankruptcy court since 2004. It previously emerged from restructuring in 2009 after a four-and-a-half year process. Reportedly, they tried to sell the company outright but there were no takers. Presume the union contracts played into it. Now they are petitioning the bankruptcy court to liquidate assets i.e. sell the brands to other companies which have expressed an interest in them. http://money.cnn.com/2012/11/16/news...ing/index.html I hope they bring back those orange snow ball things. I like looking at them but wont eat them. They remind me of cousin It. |

Wait ..... hostess makes moonpies??? :| & I never knew they had lemon cookies.... ha... |
|

There are my little orange beauties.. I have been eating those cupcakes since I was a child... sigh.. |

TF just looked up outlets. There is one 50 miles away. :

I bought several. I'm willing to share. The expire date iz in December. :praying: Better hurry :carride: :daywalker: |

Moonpies?? Really??? The world will NEVER be the same...... |
I'm trying to absorbe the magnitude of this
possible replacements from the ding dong family are: http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...tNq4EoLY2SJaxQ followed closely by http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...Sq0HWGZuGB-UGA with out either of these (both fucking Hostess?) we are sooo screwed |
Ok I just realized this means my hostess lemon pie is in jeopardy. This is not acceptable. Lemon pies are not that easy to find. Anyone know how to make a lemon pie? |

I had to double-check on line and it does not look like the Tastycake company is owned by Hostess. I loved Tastycake Krimpets and Kandy Kakes as a kid. Kandy Kakes are the yellow cake topped with peanut butter and the whole thing covered in chocolate. Good thing I would actually have to get dressed and go to the store to get them right now. I hope I don't start fixating about them. http://www.tastykake.com/products/ http://www.tastykake.com/Content/ima...x_krimpets.jpg |

I have to agree that those orange cup cakes are damned good.
Sigh. |
I love those orange cupcakes and have never cared one iota that they are entirely artificial!
And Ho Hos, please. Nibbling the chocolate off the outside and then trying to unroll them...good times. |
I shall mourn the loss of the amazing chocodiles.. (sigh) ahh well
|
A lot of people don't take the time to bake, T-Rex, but there are still some that do. Trust me, a fresh-baked loaf of bread, still warm, still gets a lot of appreciation, in a household. It does take time, however, to make bread, and other baked products.
|
do they make the pink snowball cupcake things?
I dont do twinkies but I hate to see them go. |
I loved your pictures on FB Mr. Day. I loved that you went to the outlet and talked to the people and told their story. My favorite as a kid was Ho Ho's. Loved unrolling them and eating them and spreading out the foil wrappers until they were smooth and shiney.
