I was talking to one of my oldest friends this morning and we got on the topic of love and it made me think of this thread.
I think sometimes people think of being in love as a state of fireworks and magic and I think it definitely IS that way, in the beginning and even after 10 or 20 years together. But also? I think people sometimes forget to see the magic in the small, quiet moments. The calm moments. The moments when there are no fireworks in the sky but instead, the cool dark expanse of a starry night where you are with the one you love and it feels like there is nobody else in the world but the two of you. Those moments tend to be quiet and serene for me and perhaps the most supreme state of contentment and peace. And those tend to be the moments when I feel how much my heart has swollen, how much my soul tingles. Mostly, I am able to feel the conduit of connection running from me to the other person and the exchange of blood and stories and fear and joy and desire and trust that makes loving someone else the very thing that will crack your soul wide open. |

For me ...
True love is an awakening. It can open your eyes to perspectives unlike ever before ... of yourself, the other person and relationship. Youre able to see how what you thought was love before was not 100%. Its when things are at their worst, and youre still in love. You still admire their face when they dont notice, even in difficult moments. You notice details about each other that no one has before. Your heart is always tender for each other and that doesnt change. Its waking up everyday with a knowing in your soul.

I have loved many women. I have been in love once. After a while, I began to notice and I said, "Choose one, the bottle or me." I knew I could not live with all that mess, the baggage, the games and active confusion creations. This woman is someone I would have given my life for. I am honored to have had the experience of actually being totally in love with a woman. This woman was so special to me. The experience cannot ever be taken away. It belongs to me and is mine for eternity. Yes, she was really all that and so much more. Took a very long time for me to say it is okay now and mean it. It is okay now. :) |
