The 2024 US Presidential Election Watch Thread 💙⭐️💙⭐️💙

This forum thread is for comments and insights by community members as we get ready to kick off the most important election in US history.

I usually have a lot to say about politics but just this morning, while visiting with a friend by phone, she suggested that maybe I should start a thread for others to voice their thoughts and concerns, ahead of the November election.

We were talking about who Vice President Kamala Harris might choose as her partner for vice president, over the next four years.

I shared my thoughts about who I think might be her natural political counterpart. I explained that of the potential VP picks available, I felt that Josh Shapiro (D-GOV Pennsylvania) would be the cream of the crop pick. I also talked about how Andy (D-GOV Kentucky) would be a brilliant choice as well as Gretchen (D-GOV Michigan) too. I explained to my friend that while Mark Kelly (DEM AZ) from Arizona, Gabby’s husband, would make a fine choice that I felt it was better for Mark to stay in AZ due to the purple (dem/gop mix) condition of that state that needs remarkable people like Mark to keep watch over GOP led Trumpian attacks on the nations democratic responsibilities and ensure that T—p is held accountable along with his GOP destroyers of democracy. I also highlighted ongoing missions in Michigan that aren’t tied down quite yet, so I feel like Gretchen should stay in Michigan and see justice through concerning Trumpian crimes committed there too.

Andy Besear (D-GOV Kentucky) is a real sweetheart of a guy. Andy is beyond ethical and highly principled and has led both members of his state parties (gop & dem) to overcome toxic policy implemented by T—p and is a man of his word. I believe he is expert on holding dark GOP coal mining interests at bay (Manchin- he’s no democrat, I believe he lines his pockets with cash just like his GOP buddies who stand to gain something from his political stand on coal, which he has a huge stake in coal mining issues he has contributed to, not solved like Andy has).

That leaves Josh Shapiro. Democratic governor of Pennsylvania.

Josh is not only a brilliant strategist, he is immaculate in his desire to preserve US democracy and help with holding Netanyahu accountable (cannot stand that man, even Israeli’s are calling him out for pandering to the toxic GOP & T—p who cannot tell the truth if it killed them).

How about anyone else? Ideas and comments about this years election are welcome.

Here’s to our country electing Kamala Harris as our future president for the United States of America. My hope is that THE PEOPLE will send a resounding message to the world that we don’t elect felons to office. Nor do we kowtow to the elected officials of the GOP who keep serving Trumpian agenda. We are a free country whose entire framework is being dismantled by TP & his GOP counterparts. Let’s keep our country free of dark interests and elect people who truly care about our freedoms being attacked and destroyed by Trumpian dark actors.

Mark Kelly

is my choice. The Gov. will choose another Democrat to finish Kelly's term, so we're safe until 2026, he is so popular in Arizona that I'm not too concerned about a Magat being elected.

In case we forget:

-- Astronaut

-- Navy pilot (flew 39 missions in Operation Desert Storm)

-- Currently training Ukraine pilots on F16

-- Married to Gabby Giffords, very popular in AZ

-- Gun owner but a strong advocate for sensible gun control measures

-- Strong on borders issues (visited border more than once--2023 and 2024, obtained funding for AZ border patrol in 2024). He's often talked about border issues being from a border state.

-- Both parents were cops

Mark Kelly will draw some white men away from the apricot hell-beast.

I'm looking forward to a book on Pres. Biden. This is how I see things and I'd like to know the back stories to Biden's terms as VP and POTUS.

Most Presidents get a shot at a 2nd term and Biden wanted a shot at 2024. He refused to go down without a fight. I don’t blame him.

Biden should have ran in 2016 (and 2020—if 2016 had been successful), but I think the DNC and Obama made a deal with Hillary Clinton and supported her run in 2016 (for her support of Obama in 2008). For Hillary's support, I think Obama promised her any job she wanted (other than VP?). I thought she would take a seat on the Supreme Court, but she wanted to be a policy maker in Barack's administration and she wanted to run as POTUS in 2016, pushing Biden out. Well, Hillary didn't win in 2016 and Joe Biden got the support to beat Trump in 2020. I can only imagine how victorious he felt and how annoyed that he wasn't able to beat Trump in 2016.

Of course Biden thought he'd run again in 2024 after winning 2020, but he's old, useless as POTUS, and Democrats were ready to drag his ass out of the White House if they had to. I understand.

In all of this, Biden has behaved like an adult. No whining, no blaming, no threats nor bullying. None of that Trump bullsh*t. Biden knows it’s over and has bowed out gracefully, giving VP Harris his full support, as he should.

I’m glad I voted for him and would have voted for him had he been the nominee for 2024.

I hope someone writes about this going back to the deals made in 2008 by Biden, Clinton, Obama and others.

Makes me wonder what deals are currently being made that will affect politics and policies for the next 15-20 years.

Thank you for your thoughtful response and comments! I share in your process because I too would like to read a good book written by someone who has thoroughly given the subject incredible thought and provided the investigative research and citations to support such and endeavor.

If you come across that book one day, please post about it, ok?

I have had dreams at night about who Kamala will pick for her cabinet members. I dreamed she picked Mark Kelly as her Secretary of State and reappointed several members of other agencies who were robbed of their life long careers in public service.

The Democratic Convention is just two weeks away or so.

Kamala Harris will name her VP on August 7th or 8th.

Please keep us posted as things progress forward. :bunchflowers:

Looking forward to her pick, but I'm not invested in the VP. I know VP Harris will choose someone competent and capable. Her choice will get my vote. I'm here for the Blue. :)

Democrats are going to have a good time at the DNC convention in a couple weeks in Chicago. I got rid of cable but I'm going to have get some kind of live hook up for the convention and the election. Probably Sling Blue.

I heard an interesting interview with Pete Buttigieg on The Daily podcast from the NY Times for July 27, 2024. He was insightful, well spoken and straightforward, as usual. He gave his thoughts on how the election scene has changed since Joe Biden stepped down, and what a Harris presidency might look like.

One small tidbit: the Harris campaign has taken to calling T---p "weird"; and not so much the sign of the "End Times" or despoiler of virgins or the foreteller of Fascism in America. I love this, "weird", in a marketing way. It says a lot about some smart people on Harris's campaign staff. A casual word like "weird" sets Kamala apart as one of a younger generation. It's not as threatening or dire as some of the other phrases that the DNC has used. It's not awkward. (Remember Hillary's "basket of deplorables" to describe Magats?)

Available wherever you get your podcasts.

Orema 08-01-2024 06:02 AM

Like Pres. Obama, VP Harris doesn't deny her heritage from either of her parents, but in many instances it's not up to the person how they identify—it's how the world sees them.

I love this quote from VP Harris...
“My mother understood very well that she was raising two Black daughters,” Harris wrote in her now-bestselling memoir “The Truths We Hold.” “She knew that her adopted homeland would see Maya and me as Black girls, and she was determined to make sure we would grow into confident, proud Black women.” That was before Harris attended a historically Black college and joined a Black sorority. (citation)
THIS is the reason many (smart) parents raise their bi- and multi-racial children as Black.

"Black" is how many bi- and multi-racial people will be seen and treated based on their looks (every bi- and multi-racial person doesn't look like Halsey, Wentworth Miller or Derek Jeter and they don't have to worry about being "stopped and frisked" or driving while Black). The choice is based on common sense and not because of loyalty or commitment to one race or ethnicity.

Kätzchen 08-01-2024 01:44 PM

Just got through sifting through top news stories at MSNBC & CNN: President Joe Biden was able to finally bring home two US citizens jailed by Putin’s Russia; and, the sad fact that the GOP keep blocking important Democratic legislation meant to help *all* Americans. You’d think the Magat GOP would realize that the 99% of American citizens are BEYOND tired of how they don’t work for our best interest. Hopefully the biggest wave of Blue voters will upend their long overdue firing (being fired) from their so called congressional law making.

I think I read somewhere too that Kamala Harris’ first stop on the campaign trail will be in Philadelphia. Hopefully, both Kamala and her VP will stop by the huge LOVE exhibit statue downtown and do a photo op.

Cause that be real Love.

I’m really glad that Kamala Harris picked Gov Tim Walz as her VP.

It’s hard to read the proverbial ‘tea leaves’ where our next president might pick for her cabinet, but former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown speculated recently that she might pick Gavin Newsome for a role in her cabinet. Which I think would be super progressive to have such an articulate person on her team.

https://sfstandard.com/2024/07/25/wi...-cabinet-role/

I also hope Josh Shapiro and Andy Beshear can be a part of her team: whether as outstanding governors of their states or a cabinet position too.

I know the US prosecutor attorney community is super tight. Maybe we will get a team of legal eagles known as the K-Team.

I know I posted earlier that Mark Kelly was my personal choice for V.P. but only because I was not familiar with Gov. Walz (pronounced walls.)

Watching video after video of him: signing legislation that benefits the poor, children, middle class. His interactions with his daughter Hope are simply a breath of fresh air! So obvious they have chemistry and charisma between them!

He is so normal! (can't believe this is such a huge plus!) after felon 34 and his gloom and doom, his revenge for everything if he is re-elected. (cheats)

Kamala is so compelling, so smart, so in the moment.

Say it to her face! I am rejuvenated and hopeful! Thank you V.P. and future President Kamala Harris!

I know Team Blue is going to win and win big. I worry though about how hard the GOP in Georgia just made the voting process murkier cause that is how the GOP rolls. I hate what they are doing. LINK: https://www.msnbc.com/the-reidout/re...tes-rcna165583

iamkeri1 08-10-2024 04:28 AM

It was so apparent that it was going to be a white man for VP. God forbid we have female candidates for both POTUS and VPOTUS. For two centuries we had no other choice besides white men, but the crack in the glass ceiling is only big enough for one woman. Two POC candidates? Also a no-no.

I am totally a female chauvinist. Just think if Hillary Clinton had chosen Elizabeth Warren for VP instead of that lame Tim whats-his-name. Elizabeth would have fought tooth and nail, protecting Hillary from a lot of the crap that got thrown at her.

So given the white man lottery was what we had to deal with I actually didn't make a choice. From my heart I would have chosen Pete Buttigieg, though I thought Chasten and the kids would be miserable in the white house. Also, even though he is the straightest gay man in the history of the world, who can make a case for liberal politics to the most conservative people imaginable, I thought religious prejudice might make people vote against him. I want democrats to get elected no matter what. Also, I didn't want any sitting senators to be chosen because I thought it might eliminate the Democratic Senate majority. I'm fine with Tim Walz. He has good politics.

Not to take us off the trail of positive vibes, but I find it super concerning that an ex-president with more than 34 felonies has access to super secret details on current national security issues in progress.

I also want to say that in my home state, Oregon, I live in a super red county and my team at work is 80% indoctrinated with members of the Trumpian led GOP. Yesterday one of the members on my team made a “casual comment” to me hoping I’d take her bait. I didn’t, but there’s not too many other places a lady on her 60s can work to earn a living. So I’m very concerned for my safety at work.

I’m still very concerned about how certain sectors of the voting populace will encounter disenfranchisement by bad actors with bad policy to help the deranged person who wants to wreck everything because he’s on a binge to ruin the world.

I can’t wait for our country to vote in majorities of elected democrats, so our law making body of reps and senators can apply corrective measures to prevent bad actors from being eligible for executive office.

Goooooo Kamala! Gooooooo Walz!

Boy Howdy!

I have an admission to make. After Joe passed the baton to Kamala, and it sank in after a day or two of fretting, guess what?! I am so pleased, so rejuvenated! Harris/Walz are absolutely killing it! orange blob is so petrified of losing to a little 'ol girl, he is literally a gibbering, incoherent mess! (more so than usual)

Will end with good news. From the A rated Monmouth Poll:

NATIONAL VOTER POLL: Support for 2024 presidential candidates.

KAMALA HARRIS:
38% definitely / 10% probably
44% definitely not / 6% probably not

DONALD TRUMP:
33% definitely / 10% probably
49% definitely not / 6% probably not

A 5% margin translates to 7, 8 million votes. Bernie said the other day though, trump is setting up the old and tired "They cheated!" defense when he loses. So, let's win by 7,8,9,maybe 10 percent!

A scary ride to the finish line (…)

Today, I read headline news on MSNBC which spoke to the never ending chaos supporters (ie, Jim Jorden, Mike Johnson & J. Comer et al) of the threat of these three T——p acolytes who could be part of a coup to not certify the coming election results if the results are overwhelmingly Blue or even by razor thin margins.

……………………………,,,,,,,,,,,…………………………

My thoughts about not taxing tips: I think it’s more trouble for those of us who rely on tips to supplement our incomes. I hope Kamala thinks long and hard about that. I’m pretty sure once others point out how that idea is not a good idea, she will focus more on other GREAT ideas to help all of us to achieve our own version of an American Dream.

But first: to deal with those who plan to upend the will of the people (mentioned above in post election spoiler nightmare issue).

Hopefully, our current Democratic controlled Senate will take up this issue, ASAP.

I don’t know much about polls except to say that I used to think the 538 website seemed to give accurate analyses, but I’ve since had a change of heart about that particular poll (538).

I went looking for non-partisan poll websites and came up with the website titled: 270toWin. https://www.270towin.com/2024-presid...lection-polls/

This website went live in August of 2004, a couple of months before that year’s election. On this website you can find out about all types of races for election (ie, presidential, governorship, etc). It’s an interactive site built by a non-partisan group: they plainly state vigorously that their analyses are neutral position with no favoritism for either/any political party — which I like.

The DNC kicks off today for a week of Democratic celebrations. Tonight our President Joe Biden speaks and passes the Democratic torch to Vice President Kamala Harris. I don’t have tv but will try to see if the DNC has a channel at YouTube, so I can watch and follow our political party this week.

We live in an age of time where lots of super serious, life changing issues need to be dealt with in equally serious ways. Our country needs to unite against the evil forces that long to tear down our democracy. May this week bring renewed hope and may Kamala’s meteoric rise be propelled safely as she seeks the highest office to represent American Democracy.

The Irony!

OH, THE IRONY: Fox host accuses Michelle Obama of 'race-baiting'

Obama's actual comment was, “For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us. See, his limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hardworking, highly educated, successful people who happen to be Black."

She went on to joke that Trump was trying to get himself one of those "Black jobs" by trying to retake the position that Barack Obama held. It was a reference to a Trump comment during a June rally in which he said immigrants were "taking Black jobs" — prompting questions of what exactly a "Black job" is.

Gutfeld said that the accusations are race-baiting and "America is tired of that. There are a lot of other things you can do than call people racist, which is based on mind-reading, which no Democratic candidate is capable of because they can't even read their own mind."

Take this to the bank! White guys are going down!!

Let’s Go, Team Blue ❣️🎉🎉🎉

I got to watch the final night of the DNC in Chicago, last night.

What a wonderful show of support for VP Kamala Harris and Governor Walz.

I’m leaving the full video embedded in this post so anybody can watch it and remember the courage and bravery of those who care deeply for Democracy in America.

VIVA KAMALA HARRIS❣️

Kamala IS a bad-ass!

Gretchen Whitmer was spot on.

I was extremely impressed with the DNC, all 4 nights, with intelligent, empathetic folks who are also great orators.

The joy and ebullience at the United Center and everywhere it was televised was contagious, the entertainment was off the chain. The Chicks with their 3 part harmony of The National Anthem, and Pink, with her talented daughter Willow singing What About Us! (My goodness Pink has some pipes on her!)

Will Rodgers once said:

"I'm not a member of any organized political party. I'm a Democrat!".

Let's go Blue! Knock those MAGATs back to the ice age where their ideas belong.

Will Rogers was brilliant. Harry Reid too.

Kamala and Doug celebrated their anniversary last night too.

There is one thing nobody can deny: the S T A R K contrast between those whose values align with the Democratic Party ( which is the party for FREEDOM and the party of THE PEOPLE) vs the views of those enmired in anti-democracy.

May this election season be one to be remembered for all time.

AMERICA is the bastion of LIGHT & HOPE & JOY for those who seek to be truly free from cancerous autocrats and dictators.

Let America remain beautiful. ❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙

Let FEEEDOM RING ❣️

The Arlington photo op

is spectacularly backfiring! His minions intimidated a female Army caretaker who tried to stop them from taking pictures/video of area 60 (which is an area for the newer casualties of war)

She reported the assault (my words) but is not filing charges. Why is she not filing charges? Because she is being doxxed and there are death threats against her. The U.S. Army is standing behind her, so a bit of good news.

Mushroom penis has no regard for the military, he called them "losers and suckers!" He was there for one thing only, to politicize the event and use the footage for an ad against Harris/Walz.

Sept 10th can't come quickly enough, I won't hold my breath but at least his felonies will be front and center in the news cycle.

No oxygen for the former ex-President (king of criminal behaviors)

Right???

 <<<<<<~~~ femme death stare 4 t——p.

Let’s repeat this slogan from the Harris- Walz campaign until we ABSOLUTELY know, without a doubt, that t——p and his henchmen and diabolical judges at state, federal or Supreme Court level, will never succeed in overturning the will of the American people:

”When we fight, we win❣️”
