Podcasts
I am a podcast addict. Does anybody else here enjoy them?
I have a long list of favorites. The first podcasts I listen to every morning are "Big Gay News," and "The Writer's Almanac with Garrison Keillor." I highly recommend Big Gay News - it's short and sweet and covers LGBTQ world news. The Writer's Almanac restores my mood after the gay news upsets it. What are your favorites and what do you enjoy most about them? |
"This American Life." My all time favorite podcast.

Keith Olberman CBC's Radio Drama/comedy Backbencher Arwen's month Tarotscopes |
If anybody likes satisfying academic rehashing of Harry Potter, the Hog's Head Pubcast is a fun listen.

For anybody not familiar with the podcasting world, basically the way to get podcasts (the way I get them anyway) is to search for them within the itunes application by going to the itunes store and searching. Most podcasts are free. You can download a single podcast and/or subscribe to receive the latest podcasts as they are uploaded. There are other ways to get podcasts, but that's how I do it.
I'm weeding through my podcasts at the moment, but I thought I'd write some down here. I'm a great fan of podcasts and so I feel like sharing. :) Some neat podcasts: APM: A Prairie Home Companion's News from Lake Wobegon APM: Garrison Keillor's The Writer's Almanac APM: Speaking of Faith with Krista Tippett (this show is changing names soon) Barnard Center for Research on Women (it appears this one is not being updated anymore, but there are some great podcasts from over the past few years) Big Gay News BTR: ADHD Coach Talk Career Tools (this is an awesome podcast whether or not you're a business person - they discuss all types of stuff from how to behave on an airplane to how to give a good handshake - I find it interesting as a person who was basically raised in a cave) Celtic Myth Podshow Coming Out from Behind the Badge (this is also very interesting and very relevant for anybody who may work in a homophobic work environment or who may want a better understanding of cop culture) Dishing Up Nutrition The Elllen Degeneres Show in a Minute (more like 3 minutes) Everyday Ethics Fully Engaged Feminism Introduction to Philosophy - Philosophy 100 The Joy of Organizing jungian's Podcast The Language of Tarot Meditation Oasis The Moonlit Road (great ghost story podcast) MSNBC Rachel Maddow (audio) NPR Car Talk Podcast (this always puts me in a better mood when I'm grumpy) Open Society Institute Podcast Philosophy Bites Poetry Lectures Poetry Off the Shelf Taking a Closer Look at Adult ADHD TarotByArwen The Tolkien Professor Zencast 2 Homos - Lesbian Podcast |
I love the one from Bubbatanicals. I can't think of the name but it's my friend, Brian Tant. He's an uber geek living on a farm raising bees, peaches and other things. He also sells the most YUMMY soaps (although our own Stilletto Doll does as well so choose carefully--grin.)
Great list! |

Oh yeah! It helped me survive working at Fed Ex for the last few months! I listen to:
Love pod casts! |

I'm slowly going through the History of Philosophy (without any gaps). Not that I remember most of it, but it's still interesting. I think the focus is on Western philosophy - so far I'm still in Ancient Greece.

Also listening to librivox's version of grimm's fairy tales.
Librivox.org is awesome for free out-of-copyright audiobooks btw You don't need an iPod to listen to podcasts - all you need is a computer and the Internet. However I do listen on my iPhone where I can listen to podcasts double-time. |
I am resurrecting this thread. I needed incentive to take walks at lunch and breaks so I found Serial, "a story told one week at a time", that I only allow myself to listen to when I am walking.
Loving the presentation but I am almost done with the series and don't want to run out of that carrot I have found for myself. I walked 25+ documented (Map My Walk app) miles in October. :hangloose: I had no idea there were so many interesting podcasts. Going to make a list of everything posted here and check them out. Thank you |
This morning I listened to an audio dharma podcast about distraction and now I am listening to the "in the rabbit hole urban survival podcast" on beekeeping. :)

Not sure about beekeeping but I think I would like the dharma podcast about distraction. Thank you |
I originally found a podcast called zencast about 8 years ago and discovered a guy named Gil Fronsdal speaking sometimes there. I really love his presence and perspective and when he seemed to disappear from that podcast I searched for him through my phone's podcast app and found audio dharma.
Most of the podcasts I listen to are either word of mouth recommendations or are from searching my interests through the iPhone app. i tend to go for gardening, spirituality/philosophy, crime and culture in my podcasts - but it's usually the personalities that draw me back. I listened to car talk for years just because those guys made life feel better to me. |
I've been listening to "Racist Sandwich" and it's amazing! It explores the racist roots of food culture and is SO WELL DONE!
Also, I loved the "Finding Richard Simmons" series that ended too soon for my taste. Other faves: "Loving BDSM" - A weekly show about all things BDSM done from the perspective of a couple who also have a Daddy/girl dynamic. "Stuff You Should Know" - Super interesting! "You Must Remember This" - Old Hollywood Lore "WTF" with Marc Maron - He does interviews that are fascinating and cutting "99% Invisible" - Talks all about the nuances of marketing and design. Super interesting. I listen to several more like "NPR Politics" and "This American Life" and "Dan Savage Lovecast" as well! |
