Three years ago today....
Three years ago today I had a tumour removed from my right lung. At the time I was told that the five-year survival rate for lung cancer was five percent. I was told that the tumour seemed intact (all 3.5cms of it) and that as a non-smoker the prognosis was very good (non-smokers tend to form less aggressive types of lung cancer).
So three years later here I am. I've learned a lot, I found the courage to reach out and connect with somebody, fell deeply in love and the future looks very bright indeed. Just short of preaching, I want to encourage each and every one of you to do whatever you can to reduce your risk of cancer. We all know what to do and not do. This time of the year sunscreen is SO important. I know quitting the smokie treats is a hard one, but I've lost so many people......I can't help but have my own wish for you-all (including my own Sweetie). Cancer is responsible for ONE THIRD of all deaths. We can beat it! This is my home, you are my family. I'm expecting to beat the five-year stats. I want all of you to be there too. My joy at my own good outcome is severely dampened by all those who have lost the battle. Please take care of yourselves. Sue |
Congrats to you on your three year anniversary!!!
We all need a reminder every now & then to take care of ourselves so thanks for reminding us!!! I watched my grandfather die from lung cancer when I was 14 and never picked up the smoking habit. As far as the sun, we have a love/hate relationship-I love it and it hates me. My skin is so pale that even a touch of unprotected time in the sun could leave me burned. Besides, I keep telling myself that my suncreen, sunglasses, etc are my way to fight "showing my age." I guess only time will tell-lol. Again, happy anniversary. May you have many, many, many more to come!!! :sparklyheart: |

I stand with you in the hope that we'll all do what we can to make our time here long and rich. After all, we bug the hell out of so many people...why not continue to stick it to 'em for years and years and years!!!!!!??!!!! ;) |

Happy Anniversary!
I love when we are given a grim prognosis and we prove it wrong. I was supposed to be on an Iron Lung at 40. HAH! I stumble along with my lungs but no where near an iron lung! Congrats. |
This is a beautiful thing.
I wish you MANY more cancer free years!!! Congrats!!! |
What a wonderful milestone! Congratulations to you!

Thanks everybody for the messages and reps. I'm the only lung cancer survivor I know, so I'm feeling pretty darned lucky. :cigar2:

Suebee,
Your fight is truly an inspiration. Congratulations on your 3 years cancer free!!!! Hugs, Debby |
Congrats on your 3 year anniversary!
I hear you about the 5 year deal (the same has been said for my colon cancer), but I know that the 2 year mark is pretty darn significant too, and you are already one year past that! :-) I concur on the quitting smoking deal...sooner rather than later...my father got lung cancer this past year after 26 years of NOT smoking. But, he smoked for around that many years before he quit. |
Sue,
Congrats on your anniversary - It is a milestone indeed!! I am sure you will make it well beyond the five year marker they predicted. Your determination and strong will play a large role in that. We all need reminders occasionally to keep things real in our own lives. I, as a 30 year smoker, have tried to give up the habit numerous times only to have returned time and again. I remember back to the beginning thinking that addiction could not happen to me...well, I still have the ability to quit and know that someday I will. Right now there are other pressing medical issues at the forefront. Congrats once again on your success. I look forward to reading many more of your posts in the future - both near and distant. YAY! 3 Years!
Sue, :rrose: I am so very thrilled for you! Congrats! Much love and peace, Andrew |
