OK - Score one for Obama - Endorses Respect for Marriage Act
President Obama actually endorsed the Respect for Marriage Act (which among other things repeals DOMA - the Defenceof Marriage Act. Go Obama. Can't believe he actually got off the fence for this one, but Yah!!!

Yey for him, but with this congress it will never pass, and him agreeing to this the GOP and far right will never support it. It could very well be the death nell for the bill. He could have stayed on the sidelines untill the last moment and given it a chance.

Well, I agree with all of you, but this is where I am going to toss my two cents into this discussion....What are the chances, really, of having the same rights being enforced in all 50 states and the Commonwealth state of Puerto Rico regardless of Obama advocating for the bill? |

Glad he got off the fence for this one. He is also finally, addressing closing coroporation tax loopholes, which he ran on, but really didn't push too hard on til recently. All these poor middle class and poorer Americans taxed to death by Income Tax and or other sales/hidden taxes. Glad he is stepping up to the plate on that also. Will he win on either topic? Who knows... but taking a stance is something I can respect. |
What I would like to see happen is that civil marriages be made legal for all couples, and religious marriage be reserved for - well religions. This does not seem like a tough concept to me. Can't understand why certain others struggle so much with it. Most churches already take the stand that civil marriage is not a good choice for the hets for whom it is now legal, so why should they object if homos get to have something they don't approve of anyway.
