Baltimore Butch Femme Social group

In case anyone happens upon this post, I wanted to let you know that we've created a new Baltimore Butch-Femme social group. We've already had a couple of events and will continue to host a monthly gathering at Sappho's, a ladies lounge located above Grand Central at the corner of Eager and N Charles Streets.

Next meet-up:

Saturday, August 20, 2011
7:00 - 9:00pm

Sappho's has kindly agreed to open the space up early just for our group. There are a couple of pool tables - big comfy leather couches - an outdoor deck for cigar smoking and butch bonding - and not too loud music. All in all, it makes for a nice, low-key evening out. If you want, stay late and there's usually a dance party brewing in the downstairs bar.

You can also check out our FB group at:
http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/129048060513447

It's a closed group, which means you can read the group's info but you can't see wall posts unless you've been approved.

Fantastic. It's been so long since I've been clubbing in Baltimore that I wasn't aware of new place for women. Thanks for creating the group and thanks to Sapphos for hosting the events. I may have to head down to Sapphos before the meet to check it out.

pinkajl 07-25-2011 10:04 PM

Please do drop by on the 20th. We have 30+ people between our mailing list and FB group. In addition to Sappho's we're also planning on hosting one other non-bar event each month. For example, in September, a number of people will head up to Sisterspace to camp or cabin together. We'll even be facilitating a b-f workshop over the weekend.

Our ultimate purpose is to simply build community within the community.

Oh how fun! Thanks for posting this. My honey and I will plan to come and look forward to meeting folks.

Hahaha! Drive by in Baltimore... like that's something new. XD

... but yeah Bmore is a scary place to live, it's easier when you just accept the fact that it's not a question of IF you'll get shot, just WHEN you'll get shot. lol

Hello AD (I love it - my initials are ADG)- Honestly - I LOVE Baltimore with all its problems and foibles. It makes me sad that neighborhoods can be so violent - but driving to work every day (I work downtown at Johns Hopkins) all I see are kids and dogs and families and Mom's walking their little ones to school. It what I love about Baltimore. I think I am definately a hometown girl! Besides you can't believe everything you see on HBO :flowers:

Red Dirt Girl 08-12-2011 12:44 PM

So does this mean we'll get to meet you on the 20th?

Bummer

I had been pumped to check this out since I saw the first posting. However, now won't be able to make it to the August one. Perhaps we will see you all in September. Have fun!

Artdecogoddess 08-12-2011 06:42 PM

@ Dapper - come next time - I think this group will be around for a while.

Yes, I think I (we) will. Would love to meet you in person!

AlphaDrug 08-13-2011 01:06 PM

:moonstars: I was able to join the group on FB. I'm hoping a younger crowd does exist. ^_^ I'm excited for next Saturday.

pinkajl 08-15-2011 06:52 PM

ADG- Can you please email or call to "talk" about Saturday. We want to do a 15-minute "speed networking" thing and I want to run some ideas past you. It'll be different from what we did at the initial lunch, but something that will get people talking, since it seems like we'll have a whole new batch of people attending this month.

AG- We definitely have some 20-somethings in the group, but we are not going to be like the "Rehab" crowd, if that's what you're used to. As for safety, we have about 6 butches and femmes who are in law enforcement. While they don't bring their job into their social life, if you know what I mean, they are willing to escort you back to your car at the end of the night, if that makes you feel better about attending.

Dapper (and others who can't make the 20th)- Some of us will be attending the Creative Alliance Queer Country Circus on the 27th. You need to buy your tickets on your own, but we're meeting up in the lobby for cocktails at 7:00pm. It's open seating, so we can all grab seats together, once they open the doors. http://www.creativealliance.org/even...tItem2624.html

Another group of us will be attending Sisterspace over the weekend on Sept 9-11 in Darlington. It really is a great weekend and there will be a butch-femme workshop on Saturday. http://www.sisterspace.org/

We're looking forward to meeting you and building our b-f community!

:moonstars: Awesome! I'm not worried about the area, I think that area is pretty nice. ^_^

I cant wait to meet everyone in a little bit. Gotta go change and get ready.

Join us this Saturday, September 17 for the Baltimore Butch-Femme monthly night out at Sappho's Ladies' Lounge, located above Grand Central at the corner of Eager & N Charles Street in Baltimore.

Sappho's opens up its upstairs bar especially for our group from 7:00-9:00pm. Come early and enjoy the quieter atmosphere with Baltimore's best butches and femmes.

This month, we have 2 "extras" we're hosting at Sappho's.

1- Bring your cigars and relax on the deck for some butch bonding and femme mingling. Smoke curious? We'll have some extras for sale, in case you want to try your hand with a cigar - or in case you've forgotten yours at home.

2- Bring your old DVDs to trade or swap. From 7:00 - 7:45, we'll set up a table where you can drop off your old movies. For each movie you bring in, you'll get a ticket which you can use to swap for a "new" movie. Or, buy the movie for $5 and we'll donate the money to charity.

We'll be clearing out the remaining DVDs by 8:00pm. If you don't gather up your leftover movies, we'll box up whatever is remaining on the table and also donate them to a charity the following week.
