UK to Introduce 'Gender free' Passports?
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...er-people.html
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Part of me is thinking, yes, good idea - the other part of me is thinking, hhmm, wouldn't it be better to add 'third gender/transgendered' as an alternative to male or female. Either way, it would definitely represent an improvement but, still... Thoughts anyone? Words |
Great idea, not sure how using it in other countries is going to play out, but perhaps it will start those countries thinking about their own oppression. One would hope.

If they are really concerned with making sure it's the right person they should do like they do for licenses here in california and take a finger print. That would be a far more accurate way of making sure it is the correct person then having to have a sex category! |
Third gender/transgender as a category doesn't make sense, since those are fairly distinct identities within the greater sex/gender variant community. I think providing the option to put no sex/gender marker at all would be better.
Hopefully the UK follows in Australia's shoes...and by selfish extension, I hope Canada follows in the footsteps of its fellow Commonwealth nations. |
