Icky foodstuffs
So, around the boards there are plenty of places where folks have shared the yummy still they like to eat. Well, this thread is for the stuff you wouldn't touch with the proverbial (and maybe even literal) 10 foot pole.
With that being said, what are those icky foodstuffs YOU won't go near? |
Already have a thread for this.
What is the ickiest food you've eaten Helps to do a search for a topic before starting a duplicate thread . :) |

I have some rather disturbing memories of being invited to my ex husband's family for dinner.
When we arrived, his mother was sitting outside in the garden, a hosepipe stuck between her legs, the top end of which was inserted into a disgusting smelling length of intestine. Judging by the bowl at the side of her, she had done a really good job of cleaning the intestine of its contents, but still. It gets worse. Not only was I expected to eat this, but as a guest, I was expected to eat A LOT...most of it finger fed to me by my father in law (this would usually be considered a sign of affection/respect though I tend to think that in this case, it had more to do with his being convinced that my failure to get pregnant had something to do with my weight). WORSE STILL. I had no choice but to eat it because to have declined would have been considered an insult. I am telling you. It was foul. Words |
Tomatoes and tomato flavoured things...The Divil's gonads I tells ya!
Tripe Brains Escargot Frog's legs Romanesco cauliflower...love other cauliflowers though Lurve marmite and haggis...not together though :cheesy: |
Ahh, yes, brains and sweetbreads (the gland) are a definite no too

Organ meats. I just can’t take them. They all have a similar deep dark nasty taste to me. Though kidneys are especially difficult.
Tongue. Cooked spinach. Smells like a moldy cellar. I love raw spinach though. Spinach and egg salad hmmm. Cooked carrots. Unless they are mashed with turnips, I just can’t eat them. Raw carrots I like a lot. Beets yuk. Another cellar smelling food. Periwinkles. I loved to climb the rocks and pick them. And they always smelled good cooking with onion and spices. But watching everybody picking them out of the shell with a pin yuck. They look disturbing and just don’t taste good enough to make up for the look and the feel of them. Angel food cake. Yellow cake with chocolate frosting. I just can’t stand those flavors combined. I will get physically ill. I really don’t care for my food touching too much. If certain foods meld I don’t like them anymore. |
Strawberries
Raspberries Blackberries Most other berries too Bananas Peaches and apricots...I called them 'suede apples' when I was a kid and not liking them refused to eat them since. Deep fried pigs ears...seen in Madrid Sheeps head served whole on a plate...seen in Morocco, at the nightly 'food fair' held on the Djmaa el Fna, Marrakesh http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc0465710.jpg Djmaa el Fna [unattributed picture from Marrakesh tourism site] |
I love the taste of peaches, apricots and raspberries but I can't eat them because my mouth doesn't like the way they feel. I can't even peel them for myself because I don't like to touch them. But if some kind person should peel me a peach I am always thankful. Raspberries are just a lost cause. I like them in a blender.
LOL, suede apples. good one. I so get that. |
I agree with Miss Tick...some things are just about texture....
for me: goat cheese cottage cheese over cooked pasta... |
Lots of my disliked items are because of texture and/or seeds.
Figs Pomegranates Chicken skin or any fowl skin (cooked of course) |
Texture foods that are a no go:
This weird salad my mom makes with this little ball shaped pasta called acine d'pepe, coconut, whipped cream and fruit cocktail...mouth just goes *gag* |
What did fruit and cake ever do to you? For me, it's been touched on already. Organ meats and things that used to be inside an animal's head or groin are not my favorite things at all. Neither is any kind of lining. Okra, unless fried perfectly and with minimal grease, is slimy and disgusting. |
