When a cheerleader who was mad at me (because a guy she liked asked me rather than her to prom) found out Sad Eyes by Robert John was my least favorite song she tried to make it our homecoming song so if he and I won king and queen I would have to listen to it play the entire time we danced our spotlight dance. Instead I convinced everybody to join me in voting for Led Zeppelin’s All of My Love which was also very popular at the time. We won by a landslide. The couple who won king and queen had arranged with the d-jay in advance for him to play Led Zeppelin All of My Love three times if they should win prom king and queen in support of us. So the first time the d-jay began playing it they danced together as king and queen for the first dance usually do, but part way through the d-jay stopped the music. Then the king asked me to dance, the queen asked my date to dance. The d-jay then started the song over from the beginning and we danced with the king and queen until part way through the d-jay again at their request stopped the music. Then the queen invited everyone all of us to dance with them not couple to couple but all of us together as a group all at once. So we did. This time the d-jay let the song play all the way through start to finish. Oh the cheerleader so mad! Especially later during the dance contest when everyone stopped dancing to form a circle around he and I and clapping and cheering us on watched, as we danced to Spooky by Atlanta Rhythm Section ultimately winning the dance contest. Despite her very best effort attempt to ruin it for us - it was such a great prom.
