Yooshin is just a brand/name of a company that has been making velvet fabric since I think it was the 30's. It's not expensive velvet; pure silk velvet can cost hundreds of dollars a yard. And better blends can be spendy too. This is likely just some sort of cotton/synthetic blend but it's got a nice rich color, is soft - feels very nice. It's dress velvet fabric. I'm not sure what velvet comparable to this is selling for in stores today. I just know things like panne, stretch velvet, low end crush velvet, some low end velveteen fabrics run around 5-6 dollars a yard retail and they are not anywhere near as nice as this.
Since I have about 7 and ¾ useable yards here and paid $6.98 I think it was a good deal however for someone able to buy wholesale this probably wouldn't have been as good a deal for them as it was for me. Right now modern versions of this same velvet - by buying in very great bulk, wholesalers might very well be able to get similar fabric for around the same low price per yard, I'm not sure, close though I'm thinking.
Anyhow I have no idea what I will do with this much velvet but I'm going to use some to make some satin lined, silk corded drawstring bags like some people put their tarot cards in or carry crystals, semi-precious gemstones, other trinkets, amulets around in, for my son to take up to barter fair and see what happens.
