Yes, I think that is safe to say.

Romantic relationships tend to start off in the “honeymoon phase” when everything is peaches and cream, so to speak. That feeling of everything being perfect is the result of chemicals in the brain, and it feels freaking awesome. Eventually that phase wears off, and that’s when “true love” kicks in (or not), in my opinion and experience. And when it does, it is beautifully messy...just like life. It’s not always easy, as I’m sure you know having been partnered for 22 years (which is very admirable, by the way).
