I am wondering about holiday shopping, what kind of shock am i in for.??

...maybe this might be a good time to make things for gifts instead of buying expensive trinkets? I want to make my sister a little lap quilt but i don't have a working sewing machine, i wonder in i can hand piece it and sew it by hand??? I've never tried...but maybe this is a good time to try...a little lap quilt with hearts in each square??? Does that sound nice or too sweet???..i will have to think about it, but not too long if i want to have it finished by december
