i came home today and saw my neighbour standing outside with someone, and they mentioned the gas company was en route to our address. the meter read 4.5 times the amount of acceptable carbon monoxide levels inside of his place. luckily for him, the woman outside with him, happened to drop over for a visit - but she found him on the sofa very tired. she said her head hurt immediately upon entering his apartment, and my apartment, upstairs, also read a little high on the meter, and was climbing. i'd been away all day, and i think about my neighbour, and the guinea pigs- if the woman would not have stopped over.
the gas company man said the hot water heater inside the apartment of my neighbour was tipped, ready to fall, and it would have done enormous water line and gas damage- were the situation not caught in time. he also told us that my neighbour was in a deadly situation.
sad thing- the neighbour contacted mgmt for help earlier in the day regarding his water heater, as it wasn't 'acting right', and the maintenance guy passed it as being fine to the building owner.
i hope everyone has a carbon monoxide detector, and checks the batteries on a regular basis. i do, and the level had not reached high enough to trigger it-
