Default History

When I cannot sleep, my mind will wander to Native History. There's a story behind everything and everyone has a story.
My grandfather would say Spirit don't live in the past but alllow the past to serve as your guide.
While I admit he could be a confusing man at times there were many lessons learned, and still to this day i'm learning them.
Although I adore Native history and in history in general a lesson came recently reminding that history is just that history.
If you wish to read history, pick up a good book and thumb through it.
However to keep living in the past, and seeking out that history can prove unsetteling and unwise.
One cannot live in or compete with the ghosts of yesterdays, all we really can do is make our own history and memories our way.
