my sister had one of those rescue turtles for 14 years! when she gave him to me i eventually let him go...he was BORED and LONELY. She was like "how will he eat?! he doesn't know how to survive in the wild!" i was like "they are scavengers! they eat whatever floats by!" and then she said "how will he protect himself?" i said "he's a turtle! he'll just close up!"

long story short- i took him to the bayou and set him down about six feet from the water's edge. He took off so fast he was a blur! Charged right into that water and swam off as fast as he could, never looking back. I marked the day in my journal as "Turtle Liberation Day"
