Default Runners (barefoot, minimalist and shod)

So, I've hated running as long as I can remember. But last year I picked up some Vibram FiveFinger KSO Treks and actually enjoyed running for the first time. I was like a kid again. I have a few more weeks until surgery (top surgery) but once that's done I want to get back to running.

And this time I want to barefoot run. But I'm also contemplating doing a fun-run or half-marathon. I was curious if anyone does barefoot/minimalist running or even fun-runs/marathons. I thought perhaps this might be a place to encourage each other, learn what works and what doesn't and just generally pass on advice.
