Do you also see a therapist in addition to the psychiatrist? If not, I recommend it. The right combo of meds will help manage the symptoms but you also need skills to be able to manage the moods.

Unhealthy thoughts like...? If you are having thoughts about wanting to hurt yourself or someone else, or you are experiencing mania and can't get a handle on risky behaviors then that is the time to seek help immediately due to safety concerns. Unhealthy thoughts have such a wide range of possibilities, do you have someone you can talk to? Are you religious? Maybe it would be beneficial for you to attend services and talk with someone there.

Without knowing what is going on, you can try exercising or perhaps just going outside and taking a small walk. Or journaling to get your thoughts and feelings out. Try to relax and get some sleep if you are having racing thoughts.
