Also, it is just my "supposition" that most likely what happened is this:
The pipes that carry excess moisture from AC to outside...those tend to get clogged with mildew and mold inside of them...IF not cleaned properly and with regularity. You should ONCE A MONTH pour a mixture of bleach water through them and that helps keep them clear of mold and mildew. If not done, the stuff clogs the drain pipe, and eventually builds up and you would be surprised at how much water can come out when it backs up like that. I always keep a small, inexpensive wet/dry shop vac on hand just for such problems. That happened to us in our last rental, before my partner died...was like a pool in our LR...almost 2 inches of water...I vacuumed and emptied the hopper three times...anyway...
The pipe is usually inside right by the AC unit in most places....if your unit is on top of building then the maintenance SHOULD have done this preventative for you!!!!
