When I taught in China, one of my students was named Zhang Guihong. Gui means "precious" or "expensive", "dear", and Hong is "red" (you might have heard of hong bao, those red envelopes given at Chinese New Year). GuiHong, who went by the English name of Holly, always told me her name meant "precious ruby".
