No one really needs an ipad, per se. I don't "need" one but had a chance to get one very cheap and decided to get it. For me, I know if i could go completely to an iPad my back would be thrilled because that would mean less to haul when on the road. Much like other computing devices my adage is that if it does what you need then it is needed. If it doesn't then it's a want. I did recently get the 3G iPad 2 and gave my older iPad to K to play with. She likes that she can watch vids while on a treadmill and play Mahjogg as a way to relax after a hard day while watching tv.

It will be interesting to see where things are 25 years from now as tech changes so rapidly.
