My beautiful, wonderful, loving Mother turned 90 years young this past Friday.
This is the woman who took me in her arms and adopted me when I was only 3 months old, welcomed me into her heart and family and made me her own. Many, many times she told me that she couldn't love me more if she'd given birth to me herself. She has loved me all my life.....I mean, she has LOVED me!!! I've never, ever doubted that because she's never been short on kind loving words or her stalwart support of me, come what may. There have been only a very few things I've found throughout my life, that have always remained constant and the one thing at the top of that rather short list is my mother's love. No matter what I've done, good or bad....or horrible, my mother has always been there, helping me to figure things out for myself, and teaching me how to solve life's problems. I can honestly say that she never solved my problems for me, but she has been there every second of the rough times, teaching me how to solve problems for myself. I think that is the singlemost important gift that any wise parent can do for their child.
Things have changed so much since my mother was a girl, growing up during the Great Depression and then parenting 2 children with our equally devoted father, whom she divorced in the early 70's. Mother and Pop had their differences, but they both loved us kids enough to put aside their differences and work together for our benefit. That's love. That's what good parents do and they did it for us.
So, there's this one song that, ever since it was popular, has always reminded me of my Mother. It's Paul Simon's "Loves Me Like A Rock". I want to dedicate it to my beautiful Mother on her 90th birthday.
This one's for you, Mom, because you've always been there and you've always loved me like a rock!!!
Happy 90th Birthday!!!!
Love you,
~Theo~
