Here in lays the issue Wikki anything can be altered to fit their perception, from your above paragraph you were raised as was I with an influence from our Cherokee ancestors belief, The only claim I believe is that under Great Spirit we are equal with each having equal value, not withstanding the Two Spirited Theory, this I've seen and in my heart believe the Elders and Medicine people are correct.
