One of my students brought me a sunflower bloom that toppled over in her garden...it was bigger than my head...It is now gracing the watering can in my kitchen because it was the only vessel that didn't topple over with the weight of the bloom...

I plan to keep it going as long as I can, and then I will dry it and save the seeds to plant next year.

This student is one of those rare people that you aren't too sure about but end up adoring...and this loud, brash flower is a clear example of her personality.

I brought this gorgeous flower home like it was some sort of rare prize. My whole family oohed and ahhhed over its splendor. She had no idea what this particular flower means to me, so I told her that this weekend she needs to "google" my favorite poem, Sunflower Sutra...I am guessing that of all of my students in this class, she is the one that is funky enough to get that poem.
