I just read this article in the Atlantic about the musical collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz (Larry) Hart (then Rodgers went on to work with Oscar Hammerstein):

I think the most romantic lyrics I know of, are Hart's My Funny Valentine. The tender way he regards his lover's flaws, is so loving.
My funny valentine
Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable
Unphotographable
Yet you're my favourite work of art
Is your figure less than greek
Is your mouth a little weak
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?
But don't change a hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little valentine stay
Each day is valentines day
Is your figure less than greek
Is your mouth a little weak
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?
But don't you change one hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little valentine stay
Each day is valentines day.
