This baby blue marlin was one of 7 million eggs released by its mother, and was only a few millimeters long upon hatching.
Throughout its ~27-year-long life in the Atlantic Ocean, blue marlins can grow to be 14 feet long, weighing up to 1985 pounds.
Marlins are frequently tangled in tuna nets and rarely live even after being released due to the physical trauma, leading to them being declared “vulnerable” by the IUCN.
