To Kill A Mockingbird-Although based in the American South, it has overriding themes of justice (or not) for the non-powerful in the world.
Any of Shakespeare's tragedies. I realize that's just my personal taste. To me,
Hamlet is a good "starter" as it's a straightforward story.
