gm3 books you read before you saw the movie
I *ALWAYS* read the book first (if I have any interest in the book whatsoever), it's one of my "things" ... I hate having someone else's interpretation of the story in my mind's eye while I read it.

*The first book in Philip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' Trilogy, "The Northern Lights"/"The Golden Compass" (american title). AMAZING book, a very disappointing film - though the cinematography was great. I also saw a stage production of this and I was really impressed with it.

*'The Millennium series' by Stieg Larsson ('Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', etc). Loved the books, loved the Swedish films, not so keen on the American film of the first book - it was stylish but it just didn't 'do it' for me.

*'The Time Traveler's Wife' by Audrey Niffenegger - truly wonderful and moving book, and a truly terrible terrible terrible movie.

Give me three films you thought were better than the book and give me three books that were better than the films
