Baby buck
A family of deer friends use my property for their daily walk-about. Males at a certain age become unwelcomed by the deer matriarchy and are gently and sometimes not so gently asked to stay away. The one and only buck (who in the cold, clasp grip of winter) appears more like a burro sans the points has been hanging out underneath the apple trees. These apple trees which gave the deer so much food all the way up until just last week!
With the apples gone, he has been quite brave coming closer and closer to the front glass door. He seems to be asking "Where are the apples?" This morning, he was on the porch looking in at me.... (can you say awwww)
I broke down and went to the store and bought 3 bags of apples, cut them in half and placed them under the trees. Have yet to see him or the lady deer yet but they cruise through at dusk.
Looking outside and seeing a deer at the front door, well....that was really something! Our animal friends.....are to be cherished.
ps. I understand that making a 'wild' animal tame is not in its best interest. We have had such a harsh winter this year, these apples will help keep them healthy.
