In honoring those who have left us through acts of violence either at the hands of others whose ignorance reach beyond more passive prejudice and cross into the realm of hatred and evil and also those who have chosen to leave this plane by their own hands because just by simply being here they were met with hostility or indifference and uncaring.
I personally lost two friends to suicide this past year, one was a transwoman a year and a half into her journey of transition. Both were tender loving souls who wanted nothing more than to just "be" and both lived with such terrifying aloneness that they chose to no longer walk among us.
Until a time comes when being exactly who we are is a safe place of honor and celebration, we will continue to lose brothers and sisters. Let us not forget them.
