British film about an American girls that chooses to stay in England as WWIII breaks out. It's not loud music, plot shoved in your face crap, it's actually jarring.
Well, it was for me, being a gen X. There is a scene where a nuclear bomb is dropped before war is declared. You don't see the bomb. But the distant effects that are eerie, subtle and very, very frightening, I used to have nightmares about as a teen and in my 20s. They captured my Cold War Bomb nightmares incredibly well. It actually gave me goose bumps.
The ending was a tiny bit of a let down as it seemed to get wrapped up very quickly and suddenly. Bit of a disappointment, the end, but the movie was very well done.
Two fucked up teen agers, both very believable characters, especially the anxious, anorexic, angry, american girl.
I do love a film that has a strong, believable, female hero.
