Cosmic joke
Sitting on cool wooden porch steps
wrapped in pre dawn light
waiting for sunrise
my mind wide open
heart listening
to secrets of the cosmos
whispered between ancient lovers
I feel it
The sun and moon pass each other and kiss
like husband and wife
embracing a loving moment together
and then they laugh
a cosmic joke between lovers
The sun and moon
amused and perplexed
as they watch the mind of man awaken
shifting the peace of night
Into the realities of day
alarm clocks ring
the clink and clank of coffee and breakfast
doors open and slam
a car engine starts
accomplishment calling
the day demands compliance
we must fit tightly into distortions of reality
created by the minds of man
lost in our own arrogance
forgetting our place in the universe
living in the garden of Eden
with no recollection of Paradise
At night the mind of man quiets
and the forces of nature can be heard
I can touch Paradise again
witnessing their joke
turned me into a child of the night
