Default Depression & Unhealthy Thoughts

How do you handle your depression? I have both BPDs (Borderline and Bipolar Personality Disorders) and am off my medicines and have been off for about two months now. I'm going to be getting put back on it, but I need some suggestions as to how you handle it if you can't be seen by a doctor soon enough?

I've tried meditation... I've tried begging and pleading with friends to stay with me, but they are all couples and that just makes me feel worse because they remind me that I'm alone.... I dunno....

Do you also see a therapist in addition to the psychiatrist? If not, I recommend it. The right combo of meds will help manage the symptoms but you also need skills to be able to manage the moods.

Unhealthy thoughts like...? If you are having thoughts about wanting to hurt yourself or someone else, or you are experiencing mania and can't get a handle on risky behaviors then that is the time to seek help immediately due to safety concerns. Unhealthy thoughts have such a wide range of possibilities, do you have someone you can talk to? Are you religious? Maybe it would be beneficial for you to attend services and talk with someone there.

Without knowing what is going on, you can try exercising or perhaps just going outside and taking a small walk. Or journaling to get your thoughts and feelings out. Try to relax and get some sleep if you are having racing thoughts.

I hope this helps and that you are able to find some relief soon.

You must realize that you have a medical condition that needs to be treated with mood stabilizers and anti-depressants. Especially if you have ADD also. Have you tried Abilify? Omega 3 (fish oil or flax) EPA/DHA oils taken 3x's a day can sometimes help. Bipolar is a mood disorder, but BPD is a personality disorder that may need to be treated by a specialist in long-term therapy. Ask around for a mental health advocate to be with you there to help you if you don't like the treatment you have been receiving.

I am on zoloft, and i notice a big difference when I dont take it, my whole attitude and such changes. I now know that I must be on it no matter what..... did your doctor take you off the medicine or do you not have coverage anymore from health insurance. I lost my job a couple weeks ago and I contacted my doctor, who gave me a 90 day supply to last me, and then also told me if i have a prescription from my old pill bottle you can take it to walmart and get it filled.

I have battled depression and anxiety my entire life. Yes, I have been in therapy, and am on meds. I think there is more to this than just brain chemicals being out of wack. For me, there is a long family history of depression. Plus I have an older sister who is bipolar and schizophrenic. So, I have been there in watching and dealing with her.

You're never alone Frankie, I know it may seem like it sometimes, but you have alot of people out there who care for your well being, whether you know it or not.

If I had a car, I would so drive over there just to stay with you for a little while.

You are loved Frankie!
