"The Year of Magical Thinking" by Joan Didion not for the faint of heart, but if you've had a significant loss you'll understand/supportive in an intense way...but no more intense then what you've already been through. "The Art Spirit" by Robert Henri the Best and "Love Medicine" by Louise Erdrich Writing, mysterious, something I am sinking my teeth into. |

I loved "The Year of Magical Thinking." If you don't mind can you say more about the other two books? Quote:

" Love Medicine" by Louise Erdrich's first novel. She wrote her latest "Shadow Tag" and was the book I read first. I wanted to explore all of her writing so I have gone to her first and will continue from here. It is about family relationships. Her writing is as real as it gets. "The Art Spirit" by Robert Henri is for artists and art lovers well lovers of the creative process. I understand he was a loved teacher of art, and he was a painter. Enjoy if you pick these up. Toward the End of Time by John Updike what a fantastic author! Very well written and it is futuristic! Set in 2020 after a war with China.

I'm about to start reading 'Room' by Emma Donoghue In many ways, Jack is a typical 5-year-old. He likes to read books, watch TV, and play games with his Ma. But Jack is different in a big way--he has lived his entire life in a single room, sharing the tiny space with only his mother and an unnerving nighttime visitor known as Old Nick. For Jack, Room is the only world he knows, but for Ma, it is a prison in which she has tried to craft a normal life for her son. When their insular world suddenly expands beyond the confines of their four walls, the consequences are piercing and extraordinary. Despite its profoundly disturbing premise, Emma Donoghue's Room is rife with moments of hope and beauty, and the dogged determination to live, even in the most desolate circumstances. A stunning and original novel of survival in captivity, readers who enter Room will leave staggered, as though, like Jack, they are seeing the world for the very first time.

Now re-reading The Grass Crown by Colleen McCullough. I have read the entire series many years ago and am enjoying delving back into them. In hindsight, it sure reminds me of the political climate facing many parts of the world today...

Portia De Rossi's Unbearable Lightness. It was hard to read. I thought she did an excellent job of describing eating disorders and being closeted.
