For lovers of Swing Era, 40's music...post your faves here. This is your grandparents music...but still such a joy to listen to. Nothing beats the old standards - now, this IS music!! I'll start with Artie Shaw's rendition of Glenn Miller's 'Moonglow'. I know, it's prob 'cornball' stuff to most of you, but there's something so special about this music. I love it, and if it's new for you, I hope you learn to love it too.

Thank you so much for participating, Luv, and for your contribution - always loved The Andrews Sisters. Here's a war song by a very young Peggy Lee. Quote:

Mitmo - thank you, thank you, thank you!! for introducing me to these wonderful artists - never heard of them, but if it hadn't been for you, I would never know (from one who thinks she knows it all! lol) I loved the first offering - thank you so much! The Sheik of Araby I've heard before and love. You know that song was inspired by all the hoopla made by Rudolf Valentino's starring in 'The Sheik' - a silent film of the 20's - he had women all over the world swooning! So sad he died so young. The last, 'Georgia on My Mind' - I had no idea that song went so far back. I first heard it by Ray Charles - thought he had originated it. Boy, do I have alot to learn!!! Again, thank you so much for your offerings, Mitmo. I am an enlightened girl!!

The Glen Miller Band will be at the Horseshoe casino before long,I am calling to see when the dates are and when the tickets go on sale...saw this on a eletronic bill bord going over the bridge yesterday,to much trafic to get a better look.Oh,I have tons of cassets of big band misic,Jimmy Dorsey,Glen Miller,Benny Goodmay ect...nothing comes close to the smooth swinging hype of big band music.

I grew up listening to this music and I love it madly! If someone wants to turn me to putty in their hands just dance with me in the living room to this song. . .

Uh oh! I cannot believe someone started a thread solely dedicated to BB and swing music! I could break out in song ... "heaven, I'm in heaven ..." I may contribute a bit of history now and then ... I am a dancer, and swing (not east coast ... yawn ... but Lindy Hop) ... is my favorite ... and I learned from a master, an original, a man who is a piece of history, Frankie Manning. The music came about FOR the dancers. And I have some contributions to make here. From my tastes and perspectives. Mitmo, ya captured it (for me). You go, hon!!! *running to YouTube ...* |

I too grew up on this music. My mother came of age during this era. So....not only was it always heard in our house, she taught me to dance in our living room. My favorite..... |
