![]() A song familiar to most people. Mel Torme (also known as "The Velvet Fog") wrote this with Bob Wells in 1944, Mel was 19 years old and wrote all of the music and some of the lyrics. Bob started writing it not as a Christmas song, but something he wrote to try to keep cool during a sweltering hot day. This version has slightly different lyrics than what we typically hear at the end. I'm not typically down with religious messages or inflicting them on others. This song is intended to be shared by me with goodwill and cheer. With that, I'm out until after Christmas on some "secret missions" (as my parents used to call them, conferring with "Santa" to make sure he can fit his sack down the chimney) so I wish everyone a happy holiday, may your days be merry and bright! Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose, Yuletide carols being sung by a choir, And folks dressed up like Eskimos. Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe, Help to make the season bright, Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow, Will find it hard to sleep tonight. They know that Santa's on his way He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh, And ev'ry mother's child is gonna spy, To see if reindeer really know how to fly. And so I'm offering this simple phrase, To kids from one to ninety-two, Although it's been said Many times, Many ways Merry Christmas to you. And so I'm offering this simple phrase, To kids from one to ninety-two, Although it's been said Many times, Many ways Merry Christmas to you. Love and joy come to you and to you your Christmas too and god bless you and send you a happy new year and god send you a happy new year |
