Last night on Hardball with Chris Matthews, a spokesman for the Family Research Council had this to say:
MATTHEWS: Should we outlaw gay behavior? SPRIGG: I think that the Supreme Court decision in Lawrence v. Texas which overturned the sodomy laws in this country was wrongly decided. I think there would be a place for criminal sanctions against homosexual behavior. MATTHEWS: So we should outlaw gay behavior? SPRIGG: Yes Yes, Virginia, this lot really wants to make it illegal for us to exist in this country. Forget the 'love the sinner, hate the sin' crap (which I've always maintained was just something to set us at ease so we would put our guard down). Presume that this guy said what he meant and meant what he said. As much as American religious conservatives want to say that there's no link between them and the Ugandan 'kill the gays' law, I don't see any daylight between them. Given half a chance, these same folks like Dobson, Robertson, et. al. would have America in the same boat. Cheers Aj

They found that The People tended not to be grateful or appreciative or forward-thinking or obedient. The People tended to be small-minded and conservative and not very clever and were even distrustful of cleverness. And so, the children of the revolution were faced with the age-old problem: it wasn’t that you had the wrong kind of government, which was obvious, but that you had the wrong kind of people. As soon as you saw people as things to be measured, they didn’t measure up." (Terry Pratchett) |
