Many thanks to you all for the birthday wishes! 40 isn't as bad as I thought it would be - it's actually pretty damned fabulous.

My beautiful Jess - thank you for not just one very special day, but for every day - they are all equally precious to me and I can't imagine any of them without you by my side.

My mantra for the next 40 years can be taken from a Don Henley song:

I've got great expectations
I've got family and friends
I've got satisfying work
I've got a back that bends
For every breath, for every day of living
This is my Thanksgiving
