I think... the pervasive theme of aliens as aggressive parasites that appropriate human bodies, often imitating humans and fooling non-appropriated humans, in the process,

is about our fear that the real alien, is inside us—that we are all capable of being duplicitous,

that that is the most dangerous thing a human can do.

Animals pretend to be something they're not, out of fear or hunger.

Humans do it for personal gain.

And out of fear and hunger, I guess.

(Still watching The Thing, it's almost over. The more scared I am, the more I think!)
