![]() It's not like women aren't socialized to know sexual assault is an ingrained privilege in a patriarchal society. And, it's not like we need a month to remind us of it. We know it and experience it every single day. We also know and experience internalized sexism and misogyny which is spoon fed to us from birth. Sometimes, it becomes so much a part of us, we don't see how the words used to describe us, the words directed at us, the behaviors toward us etc all reflect the messages we are given. From the stories of kidnapping and brutal rapes in India, the rapes of intoxicated teenagers complete with pictures on the internet, the hazards of being female in the military, to the cat calls or insults as we walk down the street.....are all designed to send a consistent message to women. The War on Women is not new. It is also not confined to the assault on our reproductive rights. It is not confined to North America. This thread is designed to bring sexual assault and the rest of the messages we receive to the forefront. It's also a place for resources to be posted. One resource to check out is the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.
