I'm curious, how does ones rep power increase self esteem?

Not that rep isn't fun, but isn't it more so when given for a specific reason?

In appreciation of a post? As an exchange of thoughts and Ideas? To share common like?

Or am I simply channeling a dark side today and taking this situation much too seriously? And if this is the case, don't I deserve rep from everyon, in the hopes that it will lighten my mood?
