But then, I start thinking about Tess of the d'urbervilles and I imagine all kinds of tragic scenarios and then I start feelin sympathy for said character.

I can agree to disagree with you but I would much rather hear "I don't know" than hear some made-up story made to play on my sympathies.

Oh I agree with that, I don't want made-up stories either. I just want the truth. It's easier for me to process. (I'm not kidding. I have a jacked up thought process.)
