Sunday night i saw "Gigola" at the Qfest queer film festival. I love foreign films and this one didn't disappoint. This is a French film about a young butch in 1960s Paris. When the credits started to roll I immediately felt the need to talk about it. Personally, I felt there was a lot to process. Some of the most powerful bits are left open to the interpretation of the audience, and the conversation afterward was amazing.

I just rented and watched The Lincoln Lawyer. I am not a huge Matthew McConaughey fan. The premise of the movie is that he plays a sleazy lawyer who has a crisis of conscience when finding himself representing a rich kid who is guilty as sin. Now the guilty as sin does not bother him.. (because he takes payoffs all the time to represent the guilty and get them off) however, he finds out this rich kid killed a woman he put another man in prison for years ago. The movie also stars Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, and William H. Macy.

I would not buy it to add to My collection. In the end I was glad I only paid a dollar for it through the RedBox rental machine. Oh and the Lincoln part of the title.. he has a driver that takes him around in an old black Lincoln and that is his mobile office... right down to the back seat being littered with a ton of paperwork. |

I would definitely recommend Out of the Ashes. It will make you think and cause you to ride an emotional roller coaster. Very intense. I found it on Netflix.

Been catching up on my Blu-ray viewing....

Wartime in Winter (a Dutch film) -- excellent if you like foreign films. Just really superb filmmaking -- not something the Dutch are readily known for, btw. Lincoln Lawyer -- I am a fan of legal thriller novels, and this is one of the better legal thriller books made in to a movie, I think. Source Code -- normally not a fan of sci-fi, but this came highly recommended. I liked it a lot. No Strings Attached -- bad romantic comedy. To be honest, I only watched it because I think Natalie Portman is hot. lol Treme -- ok, not a movie, but an HBO series from the same people who made "The Wire," which I think is one of the best, if not the best, American TV show ever made. Treme is about the people of New Orleans post-Katrina and how they are fighting to reclaim their city. I recommend it. |

I watched a movie last night on Netflix with a buddy of Mine called Van Wilder ~ Freshman Year. If anyone has seen National Lampoon's Van Wilder, and if not you really should, Freshman Year is the prequel movie showig how Vance (Van) Wilder became the party animal that he was known to be at his college.

Awesome movie, but then again I'm probably biased

Saw Cowboys and Aliens over the weekend. It was kind of cobbled together in places, some Indiana Jones overtones in others, not as many laughs as I would have liked. I wanted it to be more rousing or something. Wait for the DVD.

Five years after their landmark documentary The New Asylums, filmmakers Karen O'Connor and Miri Navasky return to the Ohio prison system to chronicle the next chapter in the journey of mentally ill inmates: what happens when they leave prison. The film traces the stories of six mentally ill offenders who face daunting obstacles and slim odds as they struggle to transition from life behind bars to life on the outside.
