The New Girlfriend: Director François Ozon’s :screen adaptation of a dark story by the British mystery writer Ruth Rendell (french w/subtitles)
A young woman makes a surprising discovery about the husband of her late best friend. Director Ozon has never tried to conceal his influences, foremost among them Hitchcock and Almodovar and his exploration of cross-dressing, gender fluidity and desire in this movie is very evident of that! It's a little different but on the whole I enjoyed it! If you don't mind subtitles check it out and see what you think ![]() |

Triple 9
Dirty cops plan the murder of a police officer in order to pull off their biggest heist yet across town. Stars: Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie From opening scene to the last, it was hyper-violent action. It was a nail-biter (not literally) of a movie. I can't say that it was exactly enjoyable but I always appreciate a good action flick.

I started watching the Martian. Twice....
My TV sometimes shuts off on its own...and then won't turn back on...so I got to the climax of the movie...it shut off...I went to bed. Tried again the next day...it got to almost the same part and shut off again... sigh So I took it in my room to finish the end....I fell asleep Cuz I was in bed. So I still don't know how it ends.... til later... And this morning I tore apart my living room to move it around and my only option will be to watch it in my bedroom til I reconnect all the video stuff...but I will watch sitting on the edge of my bed so I don't fall asleep.... What I did watch was excellent...Matt Damon's character reminds me so much of my brother and his sense of humor ![]()

I recently saw 45 Years. It is about a married heterosexual couple that are on the verge of their 45th wedding anniversary and the husband receives word that the body of his previous girl friend was found. She died in a freak accident in the Alps of Switzerland. Of course this girlfriend was "the one that got away."
I think the movie did a good job of showing the complex layers of long term marriage/partnering and the twists and turns of matters of the heart. In my mind I think the wife struggled with some of her feelings of betrayal, shock and jealousy. I am glad the movie showed she found her voice and allowed herself to be angry and realize she deserves more. (The ending was a bit ambiguous and the above is my subjective interpretation.)

My online daughter has a fascination with 80s and 90s movies. She's 22. I think it's a way to remind her of her beloved father who passed away when she was young. We watched The Fly. Still as gross as I remembered.

This one was OK, not one of the best I have seen.
A Norwegian movie, kind of like American big budget flicks but with subtitles: The Wave Per IMDB: Even though awaited, no-one is really ready when the mountain pass of Åkneset above the scenic narrow Norwegian fjord Geiranger falls out and creates a 85-meter-high violent tsunami. A geologist is one of those caught in the middle of it.

![]() A drama that tracks the story of the female foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. Such a wonderful movie for any day of the week. |

Both of these gave me "error play" messages and I can't see what movies they are. I use my iPad and unfortunately, this frequently happens for me.
Could folks put the name of the movies when you post videos, please? If it is possible, thanks so much.

I watched Secret in Their Eyes..
I liked it...but was often confused with the flashbacks. If it weren't for Nicole Kidman's pony tail I wouldn't have known what was when ....but I was also tired when I watched it...

London has Fallen
We enjoyed the action but it certainly is not Shakespeare. Premise is that terrorists unleash a series of attacks that leave the city of London fairly destroyed in their attempt to capture the president to punish him for a drone attack two years earlier. Starring Gerard Butler, and as President of the USA, Aaron Eckhart. Vice-president played by Morgan Freeman.

The Girl King, 2015, with Malin Buska
Based on the true story of Queen Christina of Sweden. She ruled during the 17th century when Protestants and Catholics were at war in Europe. She was an educated woman who was likely lesbian and possibly butch. She had a femme lover and was continually pressured to marry a man. It wasn't a great movie but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the story unfold. The acting wasn't bad but it was cheesy at times ![]() And it was really nice watching a woman outfox the domineering and patronizing men in her life. It's inspired me to read more about her. |

We were disappointed in this movie. It started out with some suspense but the ending was too out there.
Nuff' said, I don't want to give any spoilers: 10 Cloverfield Lane After getting in a car accident, a woman is held in a shelter by a doomsday prepper who claims the outside world is affected by a widespread chemical attack. Starring John Goodman.
