I miss:
those long summer nights....playing at til the absolute last moment
I miss: chasing fireflies and catching them in jars..
I miss: hanging up in the limbs of those weeping willow trees
I miss: being able to leave your doors unlocked and windows open all night..to catch that summer breeze...and BE SAFE doing so!
I miss: those lazy days....idling away the hours, fishing on the creeks..using a cane pole, a piece of fishing line, a bent safety pin with a piece of spam or a biscuit as bait..catching those huge catfish...cleaning them on the river bank and cooking them in a huge old cast iron skillet right there on the bank.....rolling them in cornmeal seasoned with some salt and pepper...ahh I can still taste fresh catfish. caught in unpolluted waters...
I MISS: the simplicity and innocence of youth...unencumbered by cell phones and computers
I miss: when your best friend was actually your best friend....
I miss: fresh picked tomatoes out of my granny's garden
I miss: penny candy that was actually a penny...going into the little neighborhood store with a quarter......getting a small brown paper sack, filling it up with squirrel nut zippers, tootsie rolls, pkgs. of sixlets, sweet tarts, bubble gum, kit kats, and oh so many more...and feeling like a rich King...with all that wonderful booty.
I miss: family reunions up in the mountains where several hundred people gathered...to dine, visit, and share quality time...when people actually talked...
I miss: that simplistic, honest, and wholesomeness of yesteryear...

I miss being acknowledged when I am checking out with my purchases.

I miss people being polite while walking or driving.

I miss having only a couple/few choices when deciding what to buy.

I miss meeting women in person first....then talking on the phone or otherwise.

I miss my wife. She in in Lake Tahoe for a fundraiser for cancer. Tomorrow she will embark on a 100 mile bike ride around the lake. Be safe , honey!

I miss...

Getting chores done fast and walking to the bus stop to meet my friends as we rode off to the beach
Laying out on a lounge chair out by the pool, listening to the water fountain and the sounds of a little league game in the distance ...or...having the boy who lived across the fence come over and flirt with me, he he he
Opening the freezer and having array of snacks to choose from, ding dongs especially ( my father worked for a bakery at the time)
Riding my bike across town to my friends house so we could bother the boys all summer
Sleeping till noon, and then watching soaps all day
Going to the the beach at night to "catch grunion "... Or find trouble

And this was just teenage years..lol

I miss making the mayday baskets for my neighbors out of construction paper that I drew on and mom would let me pick flowers from the lilac bush and tulips and irises from the garden.

my innocence
the feel of childhood when there was no pressure, only opportunities to play, to find new adventures
family members: my older sister, Kim; my grandmothers and grandfathers; my great aunts and great uncle
North Carolina, the sights and smells of home
Spending time with my dad-- sitting quietly, watching tv, not saying a word and feeling as though we had the BEST time together doing absolutely nothing-- I enjoyed every moment of it and look forward for the chance to do that again
Watching my nephews grow up-- I wanna see those little boys become young men all over again and again and again
Long, slow, deep, meaningful kisses; holding hands and tracing my thumb along the backs of her knuckles... "Her", wherever she is, when I find her
my grandmother's chicken casserole and home-made brittle fudge-- the recipes were lost with her passing
music, the rush of performing on stage or on the football field during marching band performances
feeling as though there's a point to the chaos we call life

I Miss:
waking up as a kid dragging a blanket out to the front lawn and laying in the sun as I woke up..
the house I grew up in has a forest behind it, beyond our fence opened up to a whole new world lots of playing on the homemade bridges covering the river. playing cowboys and Indians all the neighborhood kids getting along playing for hours..finding arrow heads, dreaming of how things must of been back then.
as a very youngin I remember my mother dressing me in foo foo tights ruffle across the bum pretty shoes and some sort of ruffle crap dress, she got me dressed before herself and well off I went out to the forest walking across a fallin tree across river and in I went! I remember getting into trouble for that one!

people riding horse back in town and no one giving it a second look.
the noon whistle that could be heard throughout town.
oh how I miss being a kid!

I lived in an apartment along a curve. We had rocking chairs facing the "el." Sat for hours on the porch during the nights of summertime.
