Jackson always claimed that she had been rocking out well before the men who would make rock ‘n’ roll famous. “If what I’m doing now is rock ‘n’ roll or rockabilly or whatever,” she told the newspaper The Tulsa World in 1992, “then I was doing it when Elvis was a 1-year-old. That’s just a fact.”

Just added this to my youtube exercise playlist. Of course I won’t be able to keep up with her, but I’ll have fun trying.

I was stuck in New Orleans for a few months in the late 70s. It was our first cross-county drive. Went for Mardi Gras and couldn’t get out. Just one bad thing happened after another. Finally made it out in the spring and headed for Houston and Galveston before heading back home. Texas was a breath of fresh air.

While in New Orleans, music by the Crusaders (not this song) and Steely Dan (who I wasn’t crazy about) saved my life. I can’t explain why but their music brought me comfort when I thought I was stuck in an episode of the Twilight Zone.
