I just posted these same thoughts on FB a week ago and was practically crucified for it, but that was not mine to own. It is true. People throw others to the curb too easily. What ever happened to people having integrity and sticking with it? People are too disingenuous these days. Throw people to the curb and find someone new. Ya know on the 1st my parents celebrated 66 years together. My sister and her Hubby had 25, brother and sister-in-law have 32 on the 7th, and my other sister and her Hubby have been together for 42. My ex and I would have had 18 this October, but she passed 5 years ago. Finding a new partner in this day is very disheartening because people are too quick to throw it away and find someone else. Disposable indeed. Not for me....

Watching the new episode of Extreme Makeover - Weight Loss Edition and seeing what the gentleman Tony went through in the span of a year. Losing his son, ending a serious relationship and being homeless for 6 months he still managed to lose weight and he looks simply amazing. Its time for me to do the same, work harder to lose the weight I need to lose and know that I am worth it; no more excuses, no more "I'll do it later" ~ it is time to take responsibility for myself and know that I CAN do this even if life gets thrown in the way!

I'm sorry you have experienced this. I wasn't quite thinking of intimate relationships... but you make good points. My friend and I have both been treated as disposable by our sons and other relatives ...as well as other friends. She has been disposed of by very shallow and self-centered friends and siblings that only seek her out when they want something.....just like buying electronics these days, it's cheaper to toss someone to the side for a replacement rather than invest in the friendship, relationship or person. Siblings and relatives treat us as disposable because we tell them how it is but their chosen friends sugar coat things and enable them. People and friendships are rarely invested in these days.

I also apologize for the experiences of which you speak because yes...families and friendships hurt just as deeply....I agree there are numerous reasons for it too. Shallowness, selfishness, impatience, and so much more. Please know that you are not alone in your thoughts and share that with your friend too.

this is exactly why I moved away from my family and didn't speak to them for 7 years. When my mother passed when I was 19 she left me 10,000. That was alot back then. My brother thought he woyld apend it for me on gambling....not...then my sister told me her husband thought god would want her to disown me to show her love for me because I was gay. This was the same man who molested my nieces for 6 years and then found god.

Then my other sister is always drunk when she calls me and wants to tell me how much she loves me as she slurs her words and tells me about her latest lay. Soooo not interested. I'm more interested in how I raised my nephew for 2 years and now his drunk father has him convinced I'm bad because I'm gay.

I give them very little input and NO control over my life.

I say that about my sister..People are disposiable to her..She has now used up everyone in the family..We do not want her around because there is sure to be trouble..The relationship she was in is now over..Who is she going to prey on next..??..Gotta tell mom to make sure her doors are locked..

My congradulations to your family for sticking together..
My mom and dad were together for a little over 51 years..That wasnt a good idea..He treated her worse than a junk yard dog..He mentioned the financial situation would not be good for her if she left..That was a lie..She didnt know that at the time..He had to be in control..Sometimes it isnt good to be together that long..Its been about 4 months now and i hope he found some kind of peace between here and cloud 9..Mom has..

Midnight; wow sweetie your family sounds a lot like mine. The saying blood is thicker than water, for some is not true in my case. Sometimes friends and lovers make the best 'real family' than do our biological ones. Sometimes letting go of people who hurt us is our way of saving ourselves, just as in what I had to do. I am sorry you had to go through all that as i did. Hugs.
