Director: Denis Villeneuve Writer: Aaron Guzikowski Fairly harrowing viewing, if a little over long in my opinion. Hugh Jackman once again has facial hair and gets angry (not like he hasn’t done that before) and Jake Gyllenhaal wears the same shirts as Elementary’s Sherlock Holmes! Paul Dano plays the creepy suspect (type casting anyone?) who leads the characters and the audience into moral ambiguity. There a few twists and turns to keep you interested as Detective Loki (Jake) tries to investigate the disappearance of two little girls. Quotes: Eliza Birch: Did you feel bad for that deer when you shot it? Ralph Dover: Do you feel bad for cows when you go into McDonalds? My husband's review. Great film. A bit hard to watch at times tho. |

Director: Abdellatif Kechiche Writers: Abdellatif Kechiche (scenario, adaptation and dialogue), Ghalia Lacroix (scenario, adaptation and dialogue) Stars: Léa Seydoux, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Salim Kechiouche running time: 3 hours Rating NC-17 A touching tale of a Adele finding her sexual self. She meets someone Emma. The liaison from Adele's point of view begins. For Emma this is no secret. There ballet together is exciting and extraordinary to view. The acting is very well done. The filming wonderful. It won the Palme d'Or (best picture) at Cannes Film Festival. There is good reason why. It was not nominated for Best foreign Language Film by the Academy Awards because of release date. The story twisted me in many ways and i was hesitant in watching the last half hour because my heart wanted a certain ending. i watched and will not say if i was disappointed or not. The movie is a top picture i have ever seen. It deserves all the accolades it receives and more. It does deserve the NC-17 as well there is such passion well worth the three hours. (there were a few areas where the film could have been shortened) Enjoy

Escape Plan (muscle action with Sly Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger). Totally enjoyed the story as improbable as it is. Good to see two action legends in a film together—they still have it.

I saw Monuments Men in the theater the other night. I really liked it a lot. A lot of great actors and it was really fun seeing people like Bill Murray and John Goodman because I can't remember the last time I saw them in a movie.

I don't like spoilers, but the basic premise is that a team of art experts are put together with the task of preserving important works of art that the Nazis stole during WWII. Apparently it's based on a true story and I'm interested in doing a little research on that because I had not previous known anything about this. It was bittersweet and had its humor and also heartbreak. I was way more emotional than I expected to be. As an artist, it was sort of a surreal experience to watch something about this effort worldwide to preserve art--that great art really can hold that kind of importance to the human experience. If you're an art fan, or a fan of WWII era movies I would recommend it. |

I saw "The Fields" last night on Netflix. It was an interesting movie. Poor Tara Reid can't act her way out of a wet paper bag most movies but Cloris Leachman and the rest of the cast really sold it for me. Hard to describe the film. It bills itself as a horror movie but I would say more thriller. Overall good flick.

I'm pretty intrigued with the mystery of the Mary Celeste lately so I picked up a copy of the film, Phantom Ship, also titled, The Mystery of the Marie Celeste with Bela Lugosi from 1935. There are so many theories as to what had happened, but this theory is that there was a murderer on board.
